How anyone can possibly try to make even the slightest excuse for what Bugg did to Mills is truly beyond me. Everyone has an opinion but geez, after the week we've had in footy, have you seen a dumber act? Has to get more than Houli!!

I don't think anyone is justifying it or suggesting it wasn't dumb, it was a pretty light hit but must have hit him in a sweet spot, as someone said Hawkins does more with his jumper punches than that. He will get weeks for it and it was stupid and pathetic but wasn't the malicious act that hall did on Staker or Plugger on Caven.

After the precedent set last week by Houli, Bugg will now call on a celebrity Gold Logie winner to act as a character witness

Anyone else have a laugh at Jayden Hunt trying to play as a forward tonight? Didn't have a ******* clue. Shocking coaching decision by Goodwin
To be fair he started in the backline and was completely useless. Besides his amazing pace he's actually a very average footballer.

Edit: my bad, got him mixed up with someone else as he did play forward the whole time. So yes I agree with you

"It wasn't a malicious act" - he turned around punched him in the head - exactly the same as Hall.

Its like saying Roberto Duran wasn't a boxer because he didn't hit as hard as Ali did.

6 weeks - well deserved.

I still think he deserves 6 weeks, just looked a lot lighter than Hall. He looked like his intent was to give him a jab and got lot more connection than intended. Hall king hit Staker with as much force as he could muster from a short punch.

Yeah his doppelgänger Wagner was the one in the backline for the majority. Both pretty ordinary IMHO

Since the AFL era started we as a club have actually managed 2 succesful re-builds: a mid-90's one and an early 2000s one. The mid 90's one almost delivered us a premiership as did the early 2000s one. Clubs like us and the Bulldogs have actually adapted well to the AFL era whearas clubs like Essendon and Carlton for example have been terrible at it.

This re-build is honestly too early to make a call on. I back our club in based on our AFL history and ability not to live on past glory. I'd give it another 3 years until this re-build can be evaluated properly.

Our club is many things (chaotic admin, questionable coaching decisions) but since the AFL era began, we've managed to adapt to the new conditions of the AFL better than most.
3 years is far far far too long to wait. you will and the club will know well before then and will make the call. all of the sides that win a flag play finals at this point in our rebuild, if you dont then historically you dont win a flag

you will know by next year as a fan whether or not its failed, or its still progressing

if we dont play finals this year for me it tells me the development of the talent has significantly stalled to the point you need to rebuild the football dept structure and re-set expectation on when we are targetting a flag. similar to what the dees did with bailey, when they started poaching football dept talent from other clubs and openly admitting it was rebuild #2 time.

Tall forwards don't come around very often whereas mids are there every year. We had to take Paddy when we did because they take longer to get going usually. Imagine the melts if we took a mid and Paddy turned out to be another Hogan who dominated right from the start.
I never understood why McCartin was the preference to Peter Wright.

WCE: Adelaide (H), GWS (A), Port(H), Saints (A), Dockers (H), Pies (A), Carlton (A), Brisbane (H)
WB: Adelaide (A), GWS (A), Port (A), Essendon(H), Carlton (A), GC (H), Hawthorn (A), Brisbane (A)

who do people want to win today. for mine its the WB as they have an easier draw

We seem to have timed the rebuild pretty badly with the GWS and GCS taking most of the first round talent at the start and then having coaching changes that reset with their own players. We probably wasted the Watters years trying to patch up then really got serious when Richo came in. Both had players from previous coaches they didn't rate and we probably threw a fair few away without a chance. Ross also left a huge hole in our list with his refusal to play kids and a seeming disinterest in the draft.

We have really done a lot of little money ball trades and seem to have planned a talent poaching plot to bring in elite talent. It's unlike most other rebuilds and resembles Carlton's current strategy more than how teams have always gone about it in the past- using high draft picks and trading away established talent to get more of them.

That was overthinking it at the time and it's overthinking it now. In a rebuild, pick mids, mids, and more mids. You can't be competitive without them. But you can win a flag with zero A-grade key forwards.
Exactly... how many teams have won cups without A grade mids? How many teams have won the spoon with top line full forwards...

Well Bolton is coaching carlton really well.

In two years he has changed the side totally. Carlton are playing really good against crows.

I wonder at this rate they will over take us next year.
