I have zero time for Hird. I can't help but to resent what he and his arrogance have done to footy these past few years.

But where he has found himself is obviously a very dark place and for that I feel some sympathy. Hopefully, as snake said, he sees through this and realises there is so much more to life than his legacy in the footy world. Hopefully his kids are ok.

As much as I abhor what he and the Bombers did this probably brings home to everyone how much social media can impact on people in a bad way.
Hope this is not true for his kids sake.

From his perspective he'd likely feel unwelcome even turning up to a game these days so he's essentially had an AFLdectomy.
Pretty tough for a bloke who's lived and breathed footy since birth.
Kudos for the great player he was in his day too.

I think its a bit of a stretch to blame social media.

He shot his own character showing extraordinary lapses of judgement. He did it in mainstream media.

I was only referencing this weeks events.
IMO an obvious mental health issue such as this is time to back off and let him get the support he needs.

I don't think it matters whether you call it social, mainstream or anything else, the words are written by a person.

Which words are you talking about?
Has there been any suggestion that its "Words" that have brought him to this.
He's had all sorts of issues, like many others in a bad place, self inflicted. From all reports, marriage, financial and business.

I think its a leap to turn around and blame the media or social media.

According to today's news the words were spoken by a person at a Christmas party.

Admittedly this was probably the straw that broke the camel's back but, more likely, a breakdown was gonna happen sooner or later.

It is a consequence of all that has gone before it. James Hird had been a brilliant player, maybe should have stuck to the media and given coaching a wide birth.

Nah he was still an arrogant twat. Almost deregistered for umpire abuse. Should have been and would have been if it was almost anybody else.

All that has happened, in a rather unfortunate way, is that the public are now all aware and the extent of his ego and narcissism. Shame for those 34 players and his family.

James thought he was untouchable . ...but found out to his own detriment like all humans that life can be a mother....er if one doesnt make considered decisions.
Decision making is always key

Allan Hird now wants a ****ing Senate enquiry into the supplements stuff and his son's treatment.

**** me drunk, yep, just what his son and club needs, another year or two of it being front and centre.

Does anyone have any idea what they are on about with this blaming the AFL bullshit?
The AFL did their utmost to find the players not guilty , disregarding all the ASADA guidelines.

The WORLD ANTI DOPING AGENCY found them guilty. I wonder if Lance Armstrong feels hard done by as well.

A case of yet another Hird refusing to accept the consequences for actions and blaming someone else. It must run in the family. I feel sad for James Hird that it has come to this ( mentally) , but the majority of this is of his own making.
Blaming the AFL, WADA, media, ( a lot of whom were actually his mouthpieces....
Robbo and Connolly) is a cop out, sorry.

Just stay out of the media FFS

Allan makes some interesting points but just way way too simplistic.

a). So James made the rule, the substances had to be safe for the players and WADA complient.
BUT... Did he enforce these rules. If a company tells their Chinese supplier that something has to have no -Lead ( for example ) and then its found later that their products have lead then that company will suffer repercussions. Welcome to the world of business.

b). The good Aussie blokes in the AFL ( but aren't they thugs and bullies ) found them not guilty, but those rotten foreigners..... please spare me.

c) There was enough evidence going round that the Doctor was in fact the one bullied to approve things, and that James was one of the ones bullied.

d) Did they buy the drugs at the chemist ? nooooooo. They were "acquired" using a drug dealer.

e) The stuff can't have been bad for the players because 4 years later they are OK. Just wow, maybe Allan Hird can prove that Asbestos is safe.

No James did not break the law. Its very very possible to drug athletes and not break any laws, why is this so hard to understand?
Maybe if there weren't so many imbeciles telling him how badly he'd been done by and how innocent he is, he'd accept the reality.

I reckon there are some conspiracies worth investigating and I'm sure he was one of several people involved but he was the figure head and was recorded saying they were running a black ops program and that other clubs were doing it too. Essendon were happy to let one man fall for the others but unfortunately he was all to happy to shove Matthew Knights under a bus and take his job blaming him as at the sole person responsible so should live by his own rules. I know someone who has had personal involvement with Hird in the past and he's always been someone happy to associate with unsavoury members of society and he didn't think what he did was wrong. The AFL tried to save their brand and lost plenty because of the saga. Everyone with a stake in it tried to blame Dank but no-one bought it move on James.

NONE OF THEM ARE GOOD PEOPLE and they just won't let go of this

They need to accept that they stuffed up

Do you mean the Hird family?

I too, like most think James bought this on himself.
You reap what you sow as they say. But i wouldnt go as far to say hid DAD " wasnt good people".
He has sat there and watched his sons life go down the toilet.
He isnt a supporter of another club who found the whole Eesendon saga funny.
He isnt a neutral observer who can view it unemotionally .
He is his Dad.

He is just trying support his son .
