My problem is how little accountability there is in the media.
When players make mistakes field, they are crucified by the media. It comes with the job of being an AFL football but I know that all players have put the effort in at training and are trying their hardest in the game. They do not make mistakes on purpose and if they do, they will go over the tapes and review during the week and learn from it.
But then AFL media doesn't have the same accountability. Yes, I understsand they have different roles but like footballers, they are doing a job. If they call out players, coaches and umpires out for mistakes, surely they should also heed their own advice. If they AFL media did half the work that the players did, then it would make our game so much more enjoyable. Half the time they are just launching into players, padding themselves on the back over unfunny calls and getting simple facts wrong.
I am a massively NBA fan and some of the media connected to that is fantastic. In depth interviews, break down of games, why teams won and why, current trends and they can be funny at times. Makes AFL media look amateurish.
