Did he actually believe we should have kept pick 5 and somehow had pick 14 (Gresh) as well? The Bombers and the media believe they did well out of that trade - as a Saints supporter watching Carlisle and Gresham playing for us makes me believe we did damn well out of that trade.

Yep same plodders who said the Hawks did well out of the trade last year, and make s..t up about Dempster retirement

Bottom line can't control what the media says, can control how we trade, draft and play
It's one the of the most one sided trades I've ever seen in history, other than the Ameet special to claim pick 1 off Hawthorn.

Two potential hall of famers in Carlisle and Gresham versus two blokes who don't look like they will make it past VFL level.

Oh, and Craig Bird.

Time will tell but damn Gresham / Carlisle were good to watch on the weekend, along with slow burn Acres (as part of McEvoy trade) and a pick from the Hawks to come, the club has done very well. I clearly remember the vitriol for Dons supporters and how righteous they were with pick 5, time will tell!

Reckon we should include retaining Ahmet Bains in that lot as he has been great for the club

You and me would be sacked if our work was so shoddy and just plain incorrect a lot of the time.
You've obviously never worked for a big company. An enormous amount of mediocrity at the big banks, the big retailers, the big mining companies, etc. Not to mention government. I'd say most people do their jobs pretty poorly and don't see any repercussions.

NO Saints
According to Kingy if we didn't do the Carlisle trade we could've had Parish & Gresham....

View attachment 359361
Absolutely incredible.

In Kings mind here us the scenario

1) We get Parish @ our pick 5 ( selection 6). This means he reckons Essendon rate Francis higher than Parish ( as they picked both together)

2) Sydney give us pick 14 out of the goodness of their hearts so we can draft Gresham.

So in Kings world

Essendon keep Carlisle and have Francis

St. Kilda have Parish and magically Gresham but no KPP and an injured Goddard. Oh and we have whoever @ pick 26.

Sydney have Bird and gave up 14 for nothing.

What a stupid campaigner King is

AFL site this morning..."Best 22....team of the week ...Round 4"

Gears and Dylan made the half back line....awesome.

Seb made the "Fans pick" for his work on Treloar...well done !

The poll for this weeks best defender.......one of the 6 contenders is,

Jarryn Geary(Adel)

Pardon !

I think our players are having some sort of identity crisis in the general media !!!!!

Actually, I worked many years at an international advertising agency. Yes mistakes get made, but it appears to me that so many mistakes get made in this industry, players can get slandered and there seems to be no comeback.

Remember the havoc caused to the career of Sam Gilbert by the woman I won't name, aided and abetted by a vitriolic press, who apparently miscarried her twins...when she wasn't even pregnant?? It was complete crap and nearly ruined his career and he never, ever received any kind of apology when it turned out most of it was complete BS and people started to see what kind of person she was. Gilbert was a shadow of the player he was for many years.

I'm not saying mistakes never get made in business etc, but I'm standing by my point that these footy journos ( many of whom qualify to be one just because they have knowledge of the game) are pretty sloppy at their jobs.
And unaccountable.

You absolutely nailed it Diehard....I remember that very sorry saga all too well.

Gilbert,Roo and the club were absolutely hammered by the media...particularly all the female Journos(Herald Sun especially) who had an absolute field day on the subject.

That whole mess caused a huge amount of damage to the club.

I smelt "a rat" when the AFL and the club went quiet on the subject.

When it was widely reported that she miscarried with twins...I was waiting for reports on which hospital etc......nothing.

After that...I was sure it was all a huge beat up and a lot of BS.

Still waiting for apologies from all the media re the bagging of Gilbo,Roo and the club.

Not holding by breathe after all these years...I'd go Purple.

Oppss...there's that name again !

The AFL don't really make them accountable because at the end of the day the AFL is well served by these little controversies. Only footy nut sacks like us give two ****s about the details. Every time AFL keeps rugby, soccer, tennis etc off the back page they get advertising and the lives of the "stars" are fair game in the exposure war. I try not to comment on the journos and definitely don't feed them by going to their twitter pages or linked articles.

I really don't care too much any more, it's not going to change so just spend you dollars reading quality and don't watch or read their rubbish. It's like eating Macca's for every meal and complaining about the quality of it. It's shit and people like Purple and hutch are some of the real shittest of al. King loves saying controversial stuff because if Fox or any other employer gets flooded with people looking at their content they pay him more.

I hate other teams!
Why can't I shake the feeling that all this latter-day 'St Bob' shit about Murphy is a gigantic humblebrag...
I did enjoy his mild discomfort last night when Throbbo asked him about whether he is now fulfilled as a player..... It was almost as though Throbbo had totally forgotten that Bob didnt actually play in the Grand Final last year

what on earth is a charlie clausen?
Some soapy star who rides on the back of Will Anderson.

Bagging out a 20 year old. FFS.

Give the kid a bloody chance
Charlie Clausen?

I have had a chat to my film journo mates Marlon Robinson, Charlton Hutchinson & Denzel Barrett.

He appears to be a 39 year old actor who made his debut as a 23 year old in a TV remake of On The Beach. He showed some promise with roles in popular soaps McLeod’s Daughters and Blue Heelers. Hopes would’ve been high that this young talent would reach the pinnacle of his chosen career; a move to Hollywood and an Academy Award.

Sadly Charlie failed to achieve the heights his fans had hoped for.

A role in something he wrote (that must have come as a surprise!). A couple of Short Films (perhaps not short enough ) A role in a Channel 9 production that was forgotten almost before it was released. Then followed a very short stint in Neighbours as some sort of homicidal fire fighter, also quickly forgotten. A couple more uninspiring castings ensued before he finally accepted the inevitability of his shortcomings and signed on for a long career in the lower tiers of the entertainment industry; namely Home & Away and unknown podcasts.

Film aficionados are rightly pissed off.

Clearly there were other much more talented prospects in the NADA Draft of 2000. What a waste of a pick!!!

Ah, the least accountable profession! My favourite thing about advertising is large-scale brand campaigns where the ROI is completely unmeasurable. I also like "media buying" as a concept - client says "we've got a bucket of money", agency says "we can tip it into some of our mates' pockets and take a cut for doing so". The "creative" role is cool too - some dude with stubble and an expensive suit (or thongs) who does a lot of lines, comes into the office once in a while, and every now and then actually produces some work. And I like that all the ad agencies have taken decades to realise that maybe "digital" is a thing; but they're no good at it so they still sell their clients TVCs even though the evidence is that TV doesn't perform any more.

It's the custom here in France. It's a real pain in the bum to fire someone, in public service it's almost impossible, so most folk do a half-assed job and some less than that!

exactly. I'm not knocking francis or morgan because they're young players, but neither or them are playing in essendon's 1s. On the other hand carlisle is very handy and gresham looks like he will be a gun.

Most big companies try to set themselves up so that everyone just follows procedures.
Its why they are so frustrating to deal with when something unclear happens. No-one wants to make a decision.
No-one is there to provide feedback as to why the system is crap.
No i don't want you to read the internet page to me, i already did that/

Happy 21st to Paddy McCartin
Won't hit his straps until he's 23/24. I see Tom Hawkins in him in terms of how long it took to be that big fwd. Paddy will make it but needs a couple more years, incidentally he'll likely be ready as Roo retires, (I think Roo has another two years after this one assuming no career ending injuries). Patience is the car with Paddy McClunkin!

Hawkins kicked some nice little bags in his first couple of years. Even Jay Schulz did.
Closer to the Travis Cloke scale at this point in time. :(
