I think Bonts is an absolute gem of a player, one of the greatest of this generation...

... which is why it'll be so sweet when we take him off the Bulldogs in a few years by throwing him a nice pay packet, while the Doggies can't afford to keep him thanks to their deal with Boyd.

Daniel Metropolis :(
Jared Brennan... "Oooo, he can pick a ball up in one hand"... "Once in a generation player"... "The new Kouta"... "What an athlete"... "Mercurial"... "So talented"....

Dud.

Bonts is a gun. Just like West, Grant, Rohan Smith, Brad Johnson... So many top end legends at the Dogs in recent years.

Still didnt mean much come finals time.

Ban this troll please.

I think we may find that this guy is not a troll. Read his posts and you will see, he may have a much simpler view of life, if you know what I mean. Good on him for having a passion for AFL and strongly supporting his club and favourite player.

Hey guys, onviously by my name sake I love the kid, but what are your thoughts on Bontempelli? Are you guys still happy you guys drafted jack billings ahead of Bont? (I know it's very early days) and i also know that Billings has massive potential if he can get his body right, but just seems that Bont is that once in a generation player

I was all over him because of the Dal Santo connection but I got skittish and thought he might end up like Andreas Everett or Gilbert, just a bit too big to play small and too small to play big. He's exceeded expectations so far but hate calling them early. Daniel Rich looked like the next Judd in his first year. Rhys Palmer was a potential super star. Mc Crae looks the goods to me and Libba is a gun, Those guys will be define AFL guns but I would let Bontempelli develop before loading the expectations on him. Stringer looks like a nice player too.

Billings will be a pretty good player by the look of it too. That was a killer draft with so many already with star quality and Freeman and Scharenberg haven't even got on the park yet.

Four clubs have nominated rookies.

Makes me wonder about our rookie elevations.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Saints have no players listed on the veterans list. This is because we need to pay full price just to achieve our salary cap requirements. So essentially we are foregoing the opportunity to put say Montagna and Riewoldt on the veterans list and have two nominated rookies.

I don't understand why we wouldn't just list the two stalwarts, and upscale another players contract, say Geary, on the back of that, to reward him for his loyalty.

Then we get the two free hits with rookies. Upgrade Schneider and Saad straight away.

Oh, just in terms of why they nominated those rookies - that might reflect reasons that we might want to upgrade our rookies.

from my understanding, if we put them on the vets list we would only need to count 10% of their salary toward the TPP (might not be 10% but its a smaller figure), and besides putting them on it doesnt mean you can just upgrade a rookie, you need to have gone into the season as a club with 38 senior listed / 6 rookies or 39/5. these guys are upgraded so that the club has 40 players to choose from.

Wrong way round. Only 10% now counts on the vets list, but no limit?

Not good with THOSE facts, but I read that we havent put them on the vets list a) because we need their salary to reach the minimum 95% TPP and b) so it creates even more cap space in coming years when they retire.

Correct. In short we are choosing to not have any players on our veterans list due to our salary cap situation. I'm sure jacks contract will be front ended aswell to allow for renewal contracts in 17-18 and allow us to use the veterans list allowance for roo and joey in future

Jake Neade? WTF? His scoring was terrible. Hopefully will turn into a good player but his first year score wise was deplorable.

IIRC, Neade was a F7/8 and made ~160k for teams.

Does Mark Stevens even pay attention to other journo's questions or is he just trolling Malthouse?

Journo 1: "What happened after getting that lead early?"

Malthouse: "I thought we shouldve been further up. We lacked composure at times... round 1 is a mad scramble but we could have been 6 goals up."

VERY NEXT QUESTION - Mark Stevens: "Do you think you missed a chance to really put some scoreboard pressure on early?"

Mick just stares through Stevo's clearly empty head: "Sorry, Whats the question? I literally just said we lack composure."

Dont he and Mark Stevens have an ongoing dislike or am I thinking of some other journo? But yeah, trolling Mick would be easy as shit.

Stevens is a moron who works through his list of questions regardless of previous responses.

The more he can claim afterwards that someone 'dodged' his questions, the happier he is, even if he looks the fool afterwards. Unfortunately, this makes up much of his 'analysis' for various segments on MMM.

From the dogs board:
Bont = Ferrari
Dunstan = your old favourite tractor
billings = the next Shaun Higgins

For a team that has been rebuilding and hasn't gone anywhere for about 5 years they are a cocky bunch.

Anyone who has owned a Ferrari will tell how much time they spend in the workshop.

That's why Banger was referred to as a Rolls Royce.

Secondly, I recall a recent favourite old tractor that almost won us a flag off his own boot in 2010.. that tractor also wore #7.

Our club more than most should know that brilliant individuals don't win you flags.

But then again, given their recent history, I can see why Doggies fans are getting excited after finally having a win of sorts.

I really dislike the way journos ask questions. Closed ended questions, asking tge question and then providing the players with the answers, asking tge obvious and even asking rhetorical questions.
