hope everyone is watching this game so i don't have to see a "Selwood in FA" suggestion in the trade thread.

Just procrastinating around with the old drafts when I noticed something.

If Jarrad Waite plays another 6 games this Season, the 2001 draft will have a full 22 of 200 gamers.

FB: Marty Mattner, Ben Rutten, Campbell Brown
HB: James Kelly, Brian Lake, Luke Hodge
C: Nick Dal Santo, Dane Swan, Gary Ablett Jr
HF: Leigh Montagna, Jarryd Waite, Steve Johnson
FF: David Hale, Quentyn Lynch, Adam Schneider
R: Aaron Sandilands, Sam Mitchell, Chris Judd
I: Brent Reilly, Luke Ball, Matthew Boyd, Jimmy Bartel

That's a wicked side.
Put that on the main board as a thread. That is amazing.

Maybe Dimma should watch the opposition play the week before

I've worked out the key to Alex Rance's dramatic 'improvement' in the last 2 years. He uses his clumsiness to fall onto his opponent, thus tunnelling him, which creates a spoil without giving away a free kick.

Watch for yourself. There were about 5 instances alone that quarter where he appears to fall into Kennedy's body when on the lead, resulting in Kennedy failing to mark. Sure it works, but I don't think it has anything to do with skill, more so just luck, as he's nothing more than a clumsy spud IMO
Keep telling yourself that. Rance is an extremely effective key back. He'd be in the top 3 key backs comfortably. So far from being a spud it's not funny.

Each to their own I guess. I'd actually take all of WCE's Mackenzie, Schofield & McGovern before I took Rance.

In fact I'd have: Lake, Gibson, Frawley, Talia, McPharlin, Scott Thompson, Ted Richards, Hooker, Hurley & even Carlisle (as a defender), the 3 Eagles I mentioned above & plenty more from other clubs before I took Rance.

I just don't rate him. Never have, don't think I ever will either. He's just so clumsy, makes very average decisions, his disposal is chronically overrated & IMO he just looks awkward in whatever he's doing

Not trying to be rude but how much of Richmond have you watched? Considering he takes the number 1 defender each week (and concedes the least number of goals his numbers are extremely well especially when compared to the guys you mentioned.
He tackles better then any other defender. Runs at nearly 90% disposal efficiency and his pressure acts are right up there with the best in the league.
The only player id take before him from your list would be Talia, but as you said each to their own.

Have to disagree here. Didn't catch any of the game last night, but have seen a fair bit of Richmond live over the last few years. Rance is a good player, very good IMO. I definitely take your point on looking clumsy, but it is just so hard to dominate him. Great closing speed, but even better in a 1 on 1 wrestle. What makes his performance of the last few years even better is that Richmond are your classic front runners, meaning that the run hard in numbers going forward but are not overly disciplined in getting back.

This means Rance is regularly exposed to one on one contests as well as needing to consistently come off his man to support other defenders. He rarely gets beat. Also, the ability to know when to make the decision to zone off is something only the real quality defenders do well. Rance is awesome this. You mention some great defenders but Rance is at least as good as all of them.

Carlisle is the one that is bordering on overrated IMO. Has played a little over half a good season at CHB and everybody thinks he is awesome. No doubt he is talented, but the reality is if he was so incredible in the back line he would be playing there. Maybe Essendon just rate Hurley as the better defender. Carlisle has actually been in average form for 2 years now, and his body language is atrocious. Plays with zero desperation and passion. Looks and plays like a big sook.

Thought Rance was a certainty to be at another club next year... Proves yet again that no one wants to go to Freo
'cept Lyon...

Totally agree, I have seen enough of Rance to consider him the best of the current FB crop. He is hardly ever beaten. I didn't see last night either but he is very good. Kennedy can destroy teams and he seems to have only had 3 goals so he must have stopped his influence at least.

Gibbs took out Robbie Gray with a tackle where the arms were trapped and his head slung with considerable force into the ground. Had to be stretchered off. Should get 3 weeks. Bit of feeling in this now - half time Carlton in front by 4 points and Port with their best player off with concussion (won't be back). Looking forward to some fireworks and a heartbreaking loss for the Blues.

Hateful result - I hold no love for Port but I wish Carlton only failure and eventual dissolution as a club. Everything about Carlton is an anathema against good sportsmanship, fairness and honour. Their tuberculous exudate of a club does not earn any credit for scraping a 4 point win against an out of form Port. Just shows how little respect they had for the liar. Mick is the anal cancer of the coaching world, a world that is much better off now that he has retired.

Port fans are incredibly fickle... My god... Was on their forum and they have a thread titled "Have lost faith in Hinkley" when he pretty much dug them out of the black hole and put them up for premiership contention last year. Yes, obviously, they have dropped off quite a bit, but wow. Their fickleness makes me laugh, and it's the reason why I hate Port fans. Just pathetic.

I hate them because the majority of their supporters didn't even know what football was until last year and then all of a sudden they pop up when a team is doing well and act like they've supported them for years. The definition of bandwagoners

I reckon that "Never tear us apart" pre-match thing is pretty cringe-worthy too. Gonna look even worse when no crowd is turning up.
