Just had a look at the ladder. Will be very interesting if Adelaide manages to beat Sydney tomorrow, as it will mean that Sydney (currently 5th) haven't beaten anyone in the top 7 this year....

Edit: Just remembered they beat Hawthorn early in the season... But still

They beat Hawthorn

Anyone notice how the commentary team didn't bitch about congestion all night? That there werent really any issues in what was a "low scoring" game?

Seems like if the football is quality then the scoring isnt so mich of an issue.

Im almost certain if we had the same scorline with a game of Saints v Dees or Lions v Blues then the TV crews would be sooking to high heaven about how "congestion is killing the game" and blah blah blah

**** the double standards these campaigners use to set their agenda...

Agree to some extent, but extreme pressure caused all the turnovers tonight... Those other teams you mention (including us) would cause a turnover when playing kick-to-kick

That's the difference

That roling zone the hawks do so well is killing the game.

As to your point I think there are small differences between lower clubs and tonight. Although the game was highly contested, kicking efficiency was still quite high. Don't think it's that high when that kind of prrssure is applied to the lower ranked teams

Yeah, that's kind of my point.

The AFL media tell us we need to get rid of congestion to allow more scoring. The fans want it, the media want it. Everyone wants more scoring.

Last week we played Melbourne. The game had a total score of 129 points. People were calling it ugly, a mess, a mire, a bog etc and complaining about how hard it was to score.

Last night the Hawks and Tiges combined for a total of 124 points. A total LOWER than the "ugly" game we played last week BUT there were no complaints.

It was "fast" and "daring" and a "great tactical battle".

The reality is that the media are pushing for higher scoring games because goals = ad revenue.

It pisses me off that these people are trying to manipulate the direction of the game when they cant even handle the coverage for what we have now!

Great post mate absolutely nailed it. Happens all the time, people confuse close games (particularly between top teams) for good games.

All this "leave the game alone talk" reminds me of what happened in the NFL a few years ago. Fans, former greats of the game saying leave the game alone or fans will drop off. They changed the rules for different reasons than ours but the result of that was scoring went through the roof, and now the NFL is doing better than it ever has. Lucky they didn't listen to those who thought they knew what they were talking about. Teams in the NBA are playing faster/running and gunning more and now we're going to see record deals all over the place due to the increased revenue.

More scoring = more money so when the AFL sees scoring going down I can understand why they go into a bit of panic stations.

So Melbourne and Collingwood play out a game with a lower total score than Saints v Dees but the story is "How good are Melbourne" and "Collingwood hit by injury" not "This is so hard to watch because of congestion."

Amazing how the complaints go away when there is a better narrative to push...

Our form is actually looking a bit better now. Put in a couple of very poor quarters against Richmond yet still got closer to them than Hawthorn did last night and comfortably beat Melbourne last week, who today comfortably beat Collingwood and who also have 4+ goal wins this year against Richmond, Geelong (at Geelong) and WB.

We may be able to put the que back in the rack and win one more and still end up with pick 4.

PS- Please don't give Brisbane a top-5 PP, AFL.
