More proof that Darcy's douche factor doubles for Doggies games.
Interesting... apparently, there is a post referring to an intra game that the bulldogs had (strangely with no media) - straight from the bulldogs board.

It suggested that Boyd didn't play that well and appeared to be quite selfish. I don't know how accurate this is (was sourced from a facebook post summarising an intra game that the bulldogs had). It seems credible that a game did happen on the weekend given that there was no intra game reports published on bulldogs site and they play a NAB cup match next saturday.

The Boyd trade was a stinker. If he becomes a gun it doesn't change the fact it was reckless stupid trade, they just got very lucky. At least when GWS did the Scully trade he had already shown glimpses he could be a gun at AFL level. Sure it hasn't eventuated, but he still showed more than Boyd. This is a kid that could barely get a kick in the NEAFL last year.

Before we go down the path of big blokes take longer, that is not necessarily true. For a recent example, compare his year to Hogan's first year in the VFL for example. The gun forwards of the last decade (Brown, Riewoldt, Buddy, Roughy), all showed they were going to be good players from year 1. Not Boyd, but hey have a lazy $1m a year anyway. What could possibly go wrong?

Would be hilarious if McCartin or Peter Wright turns out to be better, even more hilarious if Reece McKenzie turns out to be better.

If only we had traded our captain and first round draft pick away for a 19 year old with 9 senior games to him name.

Am I right fellas?

They're one/two years ahead of us in rebuilds.

Started before we did.
Think the Captain saying he'd rather step away from footy if a swap couldnt be reached with GWS.
And the coach quitting with a knife in his back mightve put their rebuild back a little.

As I've said elsewhere, it's not just that it might have been overpriced, or that Boyd might not be as good as they thought. It's also that, precisely because they paid him SOOOO much on next to no form, that in itself could damage his potential being realised.

Seriously, what does the guy need to do? He could be the crappest player on their list for the next 7 years - it doesn't matter, he's already got his contract.

More than that, when you give that much money to a player before they've done anything, it just reeks of perpetuating entitlement syndrome. Reports are already coming in of him walking around like a big shot - no kidding! Gee, didn't see that one coming!

Compare that to EVERY SINGLE COMMENT coming out about Paddy! Remarks like, "You wouldn't know whether he's the #1 pick or straight from the rookie draft, the way he's acting." I've heard that from fans who've met him, to senior players, to junior players, to seeing it myself in interviews.

Yep, and then undid all their good work in one pre-season. Most of those fabulous kids are only about 50-70ish games in. They are JUST about to really shine... but they still need hardened bodies around them, and level heads. I'm surprised Hobsons Bay didn't part in two, given the exodus of senior players that just came out of that place.

When a team has most of their best older players leave, and get a new coach, expect them to drop about five spots from where they should be. They're about to have the kind of year that we had last year.

Don't worry, if their million dollar man can just match his output in the NEAFL last year than, then that is like what another 20 goals or something. Oh, wait, woops. They still have Stuart Crameri I guess.

No Bulldogs, thank you for the laughs:)

Great point, from a mental perspective they have done the kid no favours. Not to mention the flow on impact it has to their other young kids who will now be looking at Boyd like "Who does this jerk off think he is".

Not to mention the pressure to perform. Seriously, they might be paying a kid to play vfl for a million dollars.

Nothing worse when you're busting your arse at work and the new bloke starts who earns more and does less.
A good spit in his morning coffee gives a bunch of us a good laugh.

Ease up...

They have guys like Talia, Roberts, Redpath Jong and Cordy primed to dominate their spine for the next decade.

Just look at their "Best 22" thread and see how far behind we are!

:P

Bloody hell, they bag me out for doing long posts, but at least I back up what I'm saying with something, instead of just getting in on the Bulldogs circle-jerk (where they seem to think they're better than us in every respect and spit the dummy, or just assume it's us who are wrong, if we don't all agree) and then their arguments are so weak that they resort to taking what the likes of me say and completely take it out of context, or try to twist our words, as we see in that thread in the link. It's like having a discussion or debate with someone who is about 12yo.

Reading is not really a required skill in the western suburbs.

They are just getting ready for another prelim final disappointment.

They're only interested in what other Doggies say - about how nice the kool aid tastes.

And the answer to that question: "About $600,000 better than us."

I think everyone needs to cut them some slack, I'm sure in 4 or 5 years they'll make s
I will jsut say that I am glad the Saints forum isnt up itself enough to have "Saints only" threads where we just jerk each other off.
was just thinking this. Every single other board has them. I like the open door policy, most supporters are decent when they comment. And well, we know what happens when they're not.

They have about 5 guys who should be guns, Libba, Mc Rae, Stringer, Bontempeli and Dahlhouse. The rest are developing, old or average. We could put up a pretty good case for why our list is as good or better this year. A lot will come down to key injuries. We might be luckier in the overlap being a bit better but both have big holes in their list profiles. They have a few young guys who look like potential superstars because they are a few years older but if we get a big step up from a few this year we might be in the same position.

Couldn't be great for the other players either. What's Macrae going to think when it's his turn to sing his next contract? Bonts will probably asking for big cash as well, because why the hell not? Boyd's getting a million, why shouldn't they?

Am I right fellas?

Only if we continue to pay a good part of our ex captains salary as well.

And justify it by saying we have no one to pay so we can meet our minimum TPP.

Just watching the 2014 round 23 game between Bulldogs & Giants. One observation is that Tom Boyd has the mobility of a brontosaurus. Sure he will get better, but I'm quite happy we weren't stupid enough to sign him for 7years for a multi-million $$$$ contract. And he is playing on Fletcher Roberts who I've never even heard of & he only ends up with 1 goal from 6 touches (2 hit outs)!

Any one of Shiel, WHE, Treloar or Smith will do very nicely for us at the end of this year... :)

Boyd will be the difficult match up

Boyd should be a good player long term but he was struggling at NEAFL level so he's not going to walk up and score bags of goals. Likewise Hogan comes with huge fan fare but dominating a lesser comp hardly guarantees success at the highest level. I see Boyd as another Hawkins, he will play a few games with little output early on but in 5 years will dominate a few defenders with height and strength. Boyd has ben suggested will play as a ruck early on to get him into games so Bevo must be a little worried the fans are going to have over the top expectations of what he's capable of. I hope they don't break him down like we did to Kosi.
