I'll tell you what though - round 1 against GWS. We're not going to beat them - our midfield and their midfield - ouch!! They are scary good the way they've managed to keep trading players for top draft picks, (agree the Bulldogs have massively shot themselves in the foot with last years' trade).

The AFL was stupid to allow the mini draft which gave GWS even more picks. I hold Demetriou responsible - what a tosser of a CEO - so glad he's gone!!
You forgot the trading for experienced blokes too. Adding Shane Mumford, Heath Shaw, Joel Patfull & Ryan Griffen in the space of 18months would improve just about every list in the league, and improve a list full of young guns even more.

Was that 2013 or was it 2012?

2012 I believe. When they nabbed Patton, Plowman and ORourke.

Jake Stringer and Ollie Wines went top 10 in that draft and Trout had a great connection with Wines especially.

Imagine him AND Dunstan :O

The mini draft results were hardly the fault of the Giants.

They have tried making moves for senior players, just last year they offered the Dees pick #4 for Howe and the Hawks picks #4 and #7 for Bruest and a late pick, but clubs and players aren't as willing.

They tried making a big play for Kreuzer 3 years ago and got shut down.

They offered a top 3 pick for Sam Fisher 2 years ago but he didn't want to leave.

They offered all of Swan, Pendlebury, Thomas, Nic Nat, Ryder and Hurley $1 Mil+ deals.

The mini draft was designed to help the giants get some good senior players in but nobody wanted to pay the price so GWS took what they could get from Adelaide, Melbourne and the Suns.
Looking at the way they are developing at GWS, I doubt this will happen for much longer. Problem is, they need to entice players from teams lower down the ladder. Why would Bruest leave Hawthorn? They just won B2B flags and he's happy. Good for GWS to enquire but no wonder it was shutdown, the Hawks will prob make the GF again this year.

I reckon Hurley is a good chance to go up there at the end of next year as a restricted free agent. I could also see some of the Sydney academy players being squeezed out & enticed to GWS in years to come

That would be a nice option but I'd be very tempted to have traded Fisher and something else (maybe pick 25 that we used on Spencer) for the 2nd mini draft pick and then used it to pick up Hogan. Take McCartin last year and we'd have a seriously scary looking forward line.

Hogan is a spud.

Spencer is better. ;)

The Dees v Dogs game is on and the Demons are playing a close to full strength team and the Dogs are missing a few of their best 22 but are remaining competive - thanks mainly due to M.Boyd.

Goes to show the importance of experience in younger teams so here is to hoping Armo and Joey can have big years for us in the guts.

Glad to see your sphere of influence extends so far.

Please remember with great power comes great responsibility (I do need to get that into nearly every conversation that I have):D:D:D

ben cousins imploding again
Half of me thinks he is a dickhead because he has been given plenty of chances to help get his life back on track. And he is a selfish prick to still be living this type of life now that he has a child.

But the other half of me thinks because he has that child he deserves another chance & needs support to get his shit together before his kid grows up with a dad in jail or dead.
Must be tuff on Bens parents.

Pretty much says that this is his mindset in his book.... Its really bloody sad.

I remember the chapter in his book where he uses his competitive nature (& Ben has a bloody big competitive streak in him) to try & smash the drugs as hard as he possibly can & see how far he can go (& how ****ed up he can get), instead of doing what he knows he should, ie: using the competitive streak to fight the urge... Mentally, he just seems to be wired the wrong way when it comes to this.

Hey guys, onviously by my name sake I love the kid, but what are your thoughts on Bontempelli? Are you guys still happy you guys drafted jack billings ahead of Bont? (I know it's very early days) and i also know that Billings has massive potential if he can get his body right, but just seems that Bont is that once in a generation player

Billings will be the more consistent player week in week out and will be better for our team (we have the tall timber and 3rd tall sorted so) Bonts will be the more mercuiral and match winning type who can fill in anywhere.

Pretty much the next gen Buckley and Hird just minus the drugs and figjamness.

I think I'll wimp out and put this one in the 'too early to call' basket.
But no question Bont is going to be one heck of a player. 2014 is shaping up as a super draft.
Aish and KK go ok as well.
