Goddard is a broken man. At least he has that extra season on his contract to keep him comfortable right?

Surprised there isn't more talk about his comments (from what I've seen anyway. "First time I've let the scoreboard and circumstances dictate my efforts"

Sounds to me like a man who gave up, which we all could see anyway but the fact he admitted it (which he does deserve credit for) shows just how well they're going with Hird.

Long may it last.

It's fair to say that when a player like BJ gives up, then you know you've hit rock bottom.

I reckon his last season at the Saints he had racked the cue. I loved Goddard in 2010 but he was a pretty inconsistent player when things weren't going his way. He will not be a champion in my mind because he could drop his head in games and sometimes not bring 100% effort. He was always very good but 2010 was his real break out year and he didn't back it up.

See, that all just makes me more angry at Essendon. They were given a Rembrandt painting in Brendan Goddard, and they've managed to crap all over it. I don't begrudge Beeg for leaving, really - he went under entirely false assurances by that club. I also don't begrudge him for where his head is right now - if I was having to endure what he is, I'd probably act like a weak tool as well.

If he does get out - escape - from that hellhole, and wants to come back to us, I think we'll quickly find his attitude improves dramatically.

Maybe I'm in the minority, (and it's fine if I am ;)), but I would welcome BJ back with open arms.

A life member who gave his all whilst he was here. Differing versions of why and how he left but my money says he wanted to stay.

Would love him back playing with Roo, Joey, Fish etc for one more crack at a premiership in 2017/18!!

I hate the idea of him coming back into the team, delivering sprays & finger pointing at our young blokes who are all relishing the settled environment the club has developed in the last 18 months since Watters left.... I feel BJ with his 'bossiness' would just completely disrupt that

i havnt got a problem with BJ. He was a great player for us.
But he wouldnt come back.
Somebody else would offer him more $$ and he'd go there.
If he ended up at GWS/Freo for his last couple of yrs on huge money. Im sure that after 2 games there he would be thumping his fist into his chest after a goal saying how much he loves the club .

I can see your point however I don't think it is quite as simple as saying his bossiness would disrupt. He is a serious unit sure, but that can also be a good thing. If he was so bossy and disruptive then he wouldn't be still such good friends with Roo, Lenny, Fish etc

Very true... there was a game against the Swans in Sydney in 2012 when I realised he was 100% gone at the end of the season.

Onballers Most used combination Billy Longer, David Armitage, Jack Steven, Maverick Weller (50 times)
Most used midfielder (midfielder who attends most centre bounces): David Armitage (267 times)
Centre clearances won (team): 36.8 per cent AFL ranking: 18th
Centre clearance king: David Armitage (24)
Centre clearance differential: St Kilda is +4 when Jack Lonie attends a centre bounce

Wow we are the worst centre clearance team in the competition, didn't think we were that bad.

And what about this stat. Jack Lonie is a freak. Maybe we should put him there a little more, but we do need him up forward, huge dilemma :P

They are all mates off field & have been mates for 13 years after playing together for 10 of those years.

I can picture him giving Jack Newnes a spray right now & Jack would just look through him & tell him "**** off, we dont stand for that anymore... why dont you go & lay a tackle you soft ****?!"

Hahaha - nice one :thumbsu::thumbsu:

I think they have a little more freefall to go yet!

We could just let our man Hugh loose on him if he doesn't toe the line.

The Injectors are stuffed for the next decade. The WADA result means little in the scheme of things. The players, coach, doc, all staff, supporters are mentally ruined and I can't see the club recovering anytime soon. To move forward their whole list needs to be turned over. And I doubt any decent players would want a trade there or young draftees would want to go there. Club = wrecked, and I love it.

Surprised to read that about centre clearances especially when Longer is doing so well. I know when teams get a run on against us it is generally as we are getting smashed out of the middle. 24 clearances for Armitage is not huge considering some players get 10-12 per game, I wonder what the problem is?

bit surprised this hasn't been posted yet.

Given how much he's cared about the players and assistant coaches he's sacked or moved on, told them their time was up, told to shape up or ship out surely he'd be an expert about coping with having your lively hood and dreams taken away from you. A man of Mick's experience, his gravitas, his standing in the game as a senior statesman surely Mick wouldn't struggle.

Oh yes, that's right; Mick doesn't give a rats toss about anyone but himself and now he's in the same position as so many of his charges, how sad and inevitable that the man so blinded by his own ego that he lost his last two jobs because of it, hasn't got the intestinal fortitude to take the medicine he prescribed for so many.

Our midfield isn't as good as we like to think?:(

We would be last because we had snids in their ever bloody time it seems early in the year

Is there anyone that actually thinks we have a good midfield though?
There's plenty that think our senior players Armitage, Joey and Steven are top of the tree, Dunstan is as good as any young gun going around etc. Lots of possessions, lots of SC points. Apparently not too many centre clearance, but that's ok it must be Billy's fault, ........... hang on that can't be right Billy's a gun too. Can we blame Hickey, yeah course we can.
