Surprised to read that about centre clearances especially when Longer is doing so well. I know when teams get a run on against us it is generally as we are getting smashed out of the middle. 24 clearances for Armitage is not huge considering some players get 10-12 per game, I wonder what the problem is?

That's centre clearances. Nobody averages more than 4 centre clearances per game. Even with clearances in total the highest average is 8.9 per game from Fyfe.

Billy Longer still in the top 5 rucks for hitouts in the league, and about to go past #4 Shane Mumford (Billy is on 422, Mummy is on 423). He's only 4 hitouts off NicNat at #3. So yeah, the centre clearance stat surprises me.

Those stats come from here: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-07-08/the-men-in-the-middle-who-are-your-clubs-centre-square-stars

The original quote left out the following:
RuckmanCentre square attendance – who rucks the most? Billy Longer 86 per cent
Centre square hit-outs (per game): Billy Longer 12.1
Centre square hit-outs to advantage (team): 27 per cent AFL ranking: 13th

If Longer is taking the majority the ruck work and we are 13th in the league for CS hit-outs to adv but 18th in CS clearances then it's probably the midfield that is letting us down.

Is there anyone that actually thinks we have a good midfield though?

We have two guns and then a pretty big fall away. I would say it's that group of guys who are around 100 games that we are missing. Dustan and Seb are still kids so need time. We need probably 6 high level mids to rotate on ball. We will get there but Armo and steven are covering a lot of cracks. Joey and Schnieder are out on the flanks and Joey is probably realistically more suited to that than a centre square specialist. Billy Longer is improving at his tap work too. I am actually happy with the progression despite where we sit.

Yep, it's interesting, since the two highest fantasy scorers in the entire league are ours, and they're the two main clearance players for us. Given that we have a top 5 ruck, and 2 fantastic clearance players, you'd expect us to be doing better.

I think part of our problem here, is that, after those two (Steven and Armitage), obviously, we have only one other player in the top 100 fantasy players this year is Jack Newnes, and he's 72nd.

I know I often show my love of intercepting defenders on this board, but I love mid-fwds just as much. It's exhilarating watching Gray and Wingard for Port.

If a centre clearance is halved, and there is a second ball up before the ball is taken away, is that still a centre clearance?
Becomes just a regular clearance then.

Would be ridiculous if he went for that, it was a block with an accidental head clash, not sniping at all.
He didn't need to do it, seems to fancy himself as some kind of 'enforcer'.

He's a flog.
