I don't agree, Ross is getting teams close and just falling down, getting that close says he does something right. You have to keep going to the well and eventually he will get a team that will nab a flag. He had bad luck with Fyfe going down and a couple of crucial frees going to the Hawks. His game plan leaves them vulnerable to come back but strategically there aren't many better at getting everything from his team. He needs 2 KPFs and FB now but he amazes me with what he can achieve with the players at hand.

bad luck? come on. 3-4 goals isnt bad luck nor is it even close. freo were chasing tail the entire game. anyways how many times have we heard this now. why is it every short coming in a ross lyon side is described as bad luck. facts are he hasnt even been close at freo. 2010 and 2009 are close. 2013 he was never in it and this year he hasnt even made the big dance

fyfe showed signs of fatigue just after half way through... mundy, pav, mcpharlin had "significant scans" that showed signs of injury... you rest them, especially against the poorer opposition they were facing... not play them through it so you can atleast wrap up the minor premiership as something to hang your hat on. flying them to tasmania, gold coast, melbourne etc is just foolish and in the end it cost them

suban, pearce, clarke, deboer list goes on of players whos form was pretty bad through out the year, ross backs in his 25 to the death, instead he should have dropped them and rewarded the form of players playing well in the WAFL like bellard, duffy, langdon, weller, griffin. the way ross singled out neale on the weekend sums up his coaching and typifies what he is like. happy to give the kids an absolute bake but never one to take it to his core of stars, doubt he'd go at pav like that. he certainly didnt when his form was shite and he was playing utterly selfish football. what about dawson? some of his decisions on friday night were poor...

then you get his crazy match day selection. what happened to pearce? wont trust the kids hey? he dicked around tabenar, whipping him hard, in the side one week, out the next. the worst time to do that is in finals, drops him for the sydney game, brings him back against hawthorn and surprise surprise he's down on confidence, spilling marks he'd normally clunk. if he's going to mess him around, why even play him, better off going in shorter and having a bit more run to support his defencive game. pulls deboer out of the HFF defencive role he has had all year and then for the most important game of the year he sends him to tag mitchell, how many touches did mitchell get? so you would think now that he's made deboer the tagger, he would drop suban right... nope, plays him as a sub. a tagger as a sub... hawthorn mean while trust their youth and play a 2nd year player, fast outside player as the sub

They were in the game and if a few pivotal moments went their way, or if they got WCE service from the umps he would have them in another GF. He must have some kind of record for having at least made prelims for his coaching career. He doesn't have many down years, and yes he has taken over good lists but I have lost the emotion with him leaving now and can see he's an outstanding technical coach. He has faults but so did Shedy, malthouse, Worsfold who are only rated higher for the fact they snagged a couple of GFs over their time.

Freo were within a goal late in the 2013 GF third quarter, to say they were never in it is disingenuous.

were you watching the same game? he was constantly 3 or more goals down, the umpires had nothing to do with it... freo pegged it back a few times. even freo fans admit they were well beaten and are now starting to question ross. the only ones who bring up the umpiring are offended fans rooting for freo that are struggling to deal with the loss... anyways reading the freo board is like deja vu with some of the stuff we have discussed on here around 2011-2012. slowly they are putting the pieces together. like i said bad luck on the first time...sure...2nd time...sure...3rd time...yeh nah...4th time...we have a problem here

the coaches you mentioned are also has beens. the earliest success of any of them is 5 years ago. all of them have one thing in common: they had a really good system and well financed club behind them. i would say each one of them under achieved given the list they had. anyways the game has moved past outstanding technical coaches or dictators in the senior coach role. the great coaches are the ones that can manage a team of people and develop those around them. they trust in their younger players and try to develop everyone on the list. they try and develop their assistants and development coaches, not dictate everything to them and ridicule them.

i cant think of a coach ross has developed. i can think of a number of coaches he has turned off the game, who have given up on coaching

in less than the time ross has been at freo, simpson has turned spuds like cripps, hill, butler, shepherd into good players. he's developed border line talent like mcgovern into a very good KPD, sinclair into a good ruck fwd. he's turned a quality young kids into elite talent: yeo, shuey, gaff. got the best out of stalling talent like wellingham, masten.

you'd struggle to name 5 players for ross.

He is an outstanding coach to me, he has never had a finish below 9th spot and only three times in his coaching career finished out side top 4. He has 5 prelims and four GFs in 8 years as a coach- that is outstanding in my book. If he gets a team right he will start winning premierships. He has never had the lists guys like Sheedy had in 2000 or Worsfold had when WCE were up and about but he gets every drop from his lists.

2010 we were gone when Rooey's hammy ripped off the bone. How we even got to the GF was a miracle, we nearly won it. 2009 was bad luck with a few things going Geelongs way like the non goal from Tom Hawkins. Geelong kicked true through an unmanned goal after the siren but it was under a goal otherwise and the point instead of a goal would have had us holding up the cup. The missed free to Schnieder etc didn't help either.

It was a joke because he said lets talk about the 9 and 10 GF and how much misery it will cause.
yep - understand; thinking about those two brings back memories I want to avoid like feeling sorry for my best mate who is Pie supporter in the 3rd quarter of the first 2010 gf and regretting it ever since. It is only now that I think our future looks better

rumours doing the rounds beej has asked to be traded to norf
Pretty sure that started as a bit of a gag thread on the Norf board... Mainly due to the posters' distaste for Brendon.

IF he wanted out, this would make sense, gets to play with Dal again, team right up their for a GF

would tick a bunch of Boxes for Goddard

Goddard and Dal were never the best of mates at StK, so not sure playing with him would be big motivation.
Moot point however, as like barrels said, just a load of tripe!
