I don't agree, Ross is getting teams close and just falling down, getting that close says he does something right. You have to keep going to the well and eventually he will get a team that will nab a flag. He had bad luck with Fyfe going down and a couple of crucial frees going to the Hawks. His game plan leaves them vulnerable to come back but strategically there aren't many better at getting everything from his team. He needs 2 KPFs and FB now but he amazes me with what he can achieve with the players at hand.
bad luck? come on. 3-4 goals isnt bad luck nor is it even close. freo were chasing tail the entire game. anyways how many times have we heard this now. why is it every short coming in a ross lyon side is described as bad luck. facts are he hasnt even been close at freo. 2010 and 2009 are close. 2013 he was never in it and this year he hasnt even made the big dance
fyfe showed signs of fatigue just after half way through... mundy, pav, mcpharlin had "significant scans" that showed signs of injury... you rest them, especially against the poorer opposition they were facing... not play them through it so you can atleast wrap up the minor premiership as something to hang your hat on. flying them to tasmania, gold coast, melbourne etc is just foolish and in the end it cost them
suban, pearce, clarke, deboer list goes on of players whos form was pretty bad through out the year, ross backs in his 25 to the death, instead he should have dropped them and rewarded the form of players playing well in the WAFL like bellard, duffy, langdon, weller, griffin. the way ross singled out neale on the weekend sums up his coaching and typifies what he is like. happy to give the kids an absolute bake but never one to take it to his core of stars, doubt he'd go at pav like that. he certainly didnt when his form was shite and he was playing utterly selfish football. what about dawson? some of his decisions on friday night were poor...
then you get his crazy match day selection. what happened to pearce? wont trust the kids hey? he dicked around tabenar, whipping him hard, in the side one week, out the next. the worst time to do that is in finals, drops him for the sydney game, brings him back against hawthorn and surprise surprise he's down on confidence, spilling marks he'd normally clunk. if he's going to mess him around, why even play him, better off going in shorter and having a bit more run to support his defencive game. pulls deboer out of the HFF defencive role he has had all year and then for the most important game of the year he sends him to tag mitchell, how many touches did mitchell get? so you would think now that he's made deboer the tagger, he would drop suban right... nope, plays him as a sub. a tagger as a sub... hawthorn mean while trust their youth and play a 2nd year player, fast outside player as the sub
