Other thoughts from the weekend:
Suns will push some teams early but will fade late. Multiple players absolutely spent in the third term. Won't do much this year unfortunately.
GWS, Brisbane, West Coast and Carlton are destined to be also-rans (if I'm wrong about any of these its the Blues). Put a line through Norf, Geelong, St Kilda.
Collingwood might have been a contender, but Davey is too big a loss to cover. Her timeline is crucial - if she can get back within a month add the Pies to the contenders list.
Jury is out for me on Richmond and the Bulldogs. Tiges could be a genuine dark horse. Dogs may just need to find a bit of in season momentum.
The three main contenders right now for mine:
Freo - Looked shaky at times but I reckon Wet Toast will do that to a few clubs this year. Ebony Antonio played possessed, if she can maintain that they will be tough to stop as they are basically adding yet another offensive weapon to a side stacked with them.
Adelaide - Did everything they needed to against the reigning premier and seem good all over the ground. Should feature again deep in to finals.
Melbourne - Most skilled team in the comp but struggled to maintain momentum when pushed. Dogs couldn't keep that fire going long enough. Rightful favourites on the back of that but good opposition coaches have a blueprint.
Tuesday Edit: Managed to finally watch the Norf game more fully (beyond highlights). They were better than I thought they were. Stick them in the jury's out list. Geelong may still lack firepower but Nina Morrison is rapidly making a case for best defender in the league, she makes it very tough to score - Cats might have quite a few low scoring games this season and with luck might even take a couple of scalps.
