I know (or hope?) that the comment was made in jest, but it's kind of gross to imply that people "switch sides" because they're at a football club with a high proportion of gay women.

Football clubs tend to attract gay women, rather than "converting" straight women.
It was said in jest yes. I was referring to a Seinfeld line.

But I do remember reading a post on here that sometimes women join these professional sporting clubs I think it was referring to soccer or footy and they are often do often do that.

Women who are perhaps bi-curious might experiment in a safe place, yes.

Straight women aren't going to "become gay" because they're at a football club, though.

Nikki Nield (née Gore) announced her retirement from all levels of football at age 24 due to medical advice; 2022 Crows Premiership player & won the 2024 SANFLW B&F.

Probably one of the best pure athletes to play for the team but unfortunately her stay at the club was very injury interrupted, was a bit disappointing when she was finally fit & had finally found a spot in the team at half-back during that 2022 premiership campaign that she chose to leave for the Freo offer. Always a premiership player at the club though.

Bit of interesting stuff in this article about out-of-season playing of AFLW listed players for non-Victorian teams, obviously looked into playing other non-Victorian teams but looks scuppered.

Sounds like the club is amongst those that are even less keen than previously for any of its players to play state league matches, do wonder if any will actually appear in that April-May window anymore.

Apparently they played one of those random scratch matches today in Sydney…

Boileau, Ewings, Goodwin, Smith, Martin, Tonon, Tarlinton, Rasheed, Mueller, McKee, G.Kelly and Kustermann were the 12 AFLW players that were listed to play, no idea who filled the other spots... going by the score it looks like they probably weren’t much chop.

A report from the scratch match was put up:

Sounds like Grace Kelly is going to be given first crack at that halfback spot this year. Can see why they’re trying that as with Stevie-Lee Thompson slowing down a bit the lack of speed & run off that line really stood out as an issue, that said lack of decent ball use from halfback was almost a bigger issue and that’s not her strong suit.

Hopefully Goodwin being played higher up the ground actually becomes a thing in the real stuff, will be disappointed if again her skills are wasted by being forced to play lockdown on the oppositions dangerous small forwards again.

Would like more than a paragraph on Georgia McKee’s game next match 😅

I see we're using Rasheed in that "kind of a forward, kind of a midfielder" role that so many players have struggled with. Hopefully it suits her.

Any word on how we're planning to use Ewings?
Clarke like most coaches obviously likes to ‘introduce’ draftees in that role, problem becomes when they get stuck in that role like Charlton has. I don’t mind it with Rasheed though she’s more dangerous when forward and given the forward issues there is probably more opportunity there. In the SANFLW she showed she gets a lot of disposals when playing in the midfield but like we see with Rankine in the men there can be an argument where they damage you more.

Wouldn’t have minded them mentioning the role Ewings played on the weekend in that article, likely to assume they try to do the same with Ewings like with Rasheed, though it is probably going to be more fitness/durability related. I know she’s kicked a few goals with Port and some at SANFLW level but as I’ve mentioned before she hasn’t ever shown much natural forward instincts, if they’re are going to ease her in getting her to use her long kick and decent disposal as a loose off halfback could’ve been worth a look.

I wondered why we were already playing a scratch match.
