so who is riding the Vuelta ?

Assume Chavas riding for Michellton Scott
Will Bmc let Porte ride Given the comments made during the tdf ?

Who will be the Sky Leader ?
I think Chaves is still sick, and they're not racing him again until he's well.

Porte probably depends on how quickly his broken bones mend.

I assume Chaves/Nieve/Simon Yates to be a three pronged attack in the Vuelta, and I'm hoping Adam goes as well.
Porte is BMC's only really GC contender so they kinda have to.
Sky Leader is the interesting one. Egan Bernal may be given a chance.

CyclingStage.com is suggesting that UK Postal's riders will include Michal Kwiatkowski, David de la Cruz, and Teo Geoghegan Hart.

I can't see FLP or Thomas doing it, given the level of fatigue FLP showed in the Tour. Bernal is still only 21, so they probably won't want to risk burning him out by racing him in consecutive Grand Tours.

Zwift have opened up the WC course for Innsbruck so I have been sweating my ass around it the last couple of days. Every report Ive read is this is a GC climbers course but Im not so sure. The climb goes from ramps over 10% then back flat spots then ramps again, supposed to ave. 7% but its not a constant climb and the descent is not what I would technical, some fast straights, not a heap of tight corners. I like Alaphilippe's chances.

He really does, doesn't he? The media loves asking him about it too, and you invariably get the "just because I'm Aussie, doesn't mean I have to ride for the Aussie team" line.

Porte is very proudly Aussie, so was extremely disappointed that Mitchelton Scott showed no interest in acquiring his services for the start up of the team in 2012 when he was off-contract at the end of 2011 - The Aussie cycling mafia led Porte to believe he was a shoe in to join MS and he was even more disappointed when he was again rejected the next time he came off contract - Hence his verbal spars at the team over the years.

A.Yates suggested after the TDF, that he may ride the Vuelta - Think this is now unlikely as he is now riding the Colorado Classic the week before the Vuelta - Ewan had a hissy fit at last Sunday's Surrey Classic and has now been withdrawn from the Vuelta.

A likely Vuelta team is S.Yates, Kreuziger, Bewley, Verona, Haig and Trentin - last two spots will come from Edmondson, Howson, Albasini and Mezgec.

Tried to google Ewans hissy fit.
Are you able to elaborate ?

Ewan has been withdrawn from the Vuelta and will ride the Binck Bank tour and the Tour of Britain - There will nothing online about Ewan hissy fit as no reputable cycling team will publically discuss such matters - Daniel Benson in an article in Cycling News two days ago hinted at an issue two days.

Thanks

I could only find that he was in the early break but did not finish, with no detail on why.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ewan isnt on a WT team within 2 years to be honest.

Gerrans has announced his retirement at the end of the season, absolute champ when he was at his best.

Chaves has been pulled from the Vuelta. They've had him doing a battery of tests after his Giro disaster, and the final verdict is that he has Glandular Fever (AKA Mononucleosis or Epstein-Barr). He also has sinus & allergy issues as well, resulting in minor sinus surgery. He may, or may not, race again this year - but if he does it won't be at the Vuelta.

In other news, CCC (AKA the re-branded BMC) have put a contract offer to Geraint Thomas. As far as I'm aware, GVA is the only rider to have actually signed with CCC, with almost their complete 2018 roster heading elsewhere. If he signed, GT would give them a grand total of 2 riders. Why would GT sign? Because he's always going to play second fiddle to FLP while he remains at UK Postal, so if he wants to lead a team in a Grand Tour (let alone defend his yellow jersey) then his best option is to leave UK Postal. Will he sign with CCC? Probably not, given that they have no support riders whatsoever, but the lack of signings means there should be lots of money available for him if he chooses to jump ship.

Seriously... do CCC have any riders at all, other than GVA? Here's a list of notable riders who have already left:
  • Porte (Trek Segafredo)
  • TJVG (Education First)
  • Dennis (Bahrain Merida)
  • Caruso (Bahrain Merida)
  • Teuns (Bahrain Merida)
  • Wyss (Dimension Data)
  • Roelandts (Movistar)
  • Gerrans (retired)
That's pretty much their entire first-choice TDF team.

I can't find anything regarding the futures of Nicolas Roche or Miles Scotson. The only riders (other than GVA) who appear to be staying with CCC are Schar & Van Hooydonck.

It is quite odd for a 28yo to get glandular fever
Not really. It's a virus which (as far as I'm aware) doesn't particularly discriminate between its victims.

I had it at age 20. Adelaide's Tom Lynch had it this year, effectively destroying his pre-season, and he's 27.

In the Western world typically 80-90% of people have been exposed to the virus by age 20. In the developing world, 90% are by about age 4. For him to get it at 28 is unusual from a scientific/statistical standpoint.

There's nothing inherently wrong with that, its just odd

Alistair Lynch and Justin Charles also.

De Marchi has signed but even he has admitted he never thought they would find a sponsor so had been looking for a new team since spring, looks like they left it too late and guys had already found new homes. Outside of the BMC squad they signed former QuickStep classics specialist Van Keirsbulk who has had a couple of seasons outside WT. Supposed to be GVA's right hand man but he has proven he is good enough to finish top 10 in those races. Has a reputation for his lifestyle outside of racing but has probably grown up a bit. I think they will be after Majka for their GC role and whether they get a few more Polish riders in, guys like Golas and Marczynski should be easy to sign. Still havent seen mentioned what bikes they will be on, BMC are off to DD.

The article I linked suggested Landa & Valverde. Both would be backing up from the Tour.

Sent from my D5503 using Tapatalk

Landa crashed last weekend and can't get back on the bike for 4 weeks. Bernal went down in the same crash and had to have facial surgery.

Kruezinger leaving Michelton Scott

on the other hand Trentin is back, winning the Euro road champs.

Both Yates to start the Vuelta.
Nibali fronting up as well
