Running sucks arse compared to swimming.

I'll do it anyway though.

I loved long runs, can't do them any longer because of 61 year old knees.

Although during the recent lockdown here in Brisbane I did a 4 km run on grass and the knees felt OK, probably only because I'd given the knees a rest from the running for 2 years prior though.

This is cruel, all these nice pools around here but they are closed until Tuesday when I'll be long gone.

Did at least get one in Friday though, better than nothing.

Been really working on my running in preparation for a return to footy next season. I've only played about 5 games in the past 10 or so years. Played at a high-ish level before that. For our friends here who still play, what kind of fitness would you need to play local ressies these days? I've never been a gifted aerobic athlete so have had to work pretty hard to get my 5km under 25 mins.

Went absolutely HAM on a 5km run yesterday, average heart rate of 175 which is the highest intensity (in terms of heart rate) 5km run I've done by quite a margin. Not my fastest run mind you but this route is a bit tougher (in terms of elevation gain) than anything quicker I've managed so I'm pretty chuffed with it overall. Been mixing up my cardio quite a lot between steady state running, some HIIT and swimming.

I like to combination of high intensity 5km runs with interval training and I feel like it gives me extra grunt on high rep sets of lifting.

What are people's thoughts on chiropractors? I'm thinking of seeing one to work on my mobility/flexibility. Good idea or quackery?

Love my Chiro.
It’s all subjective (wife lives for the physio).
In my opinion Chiro can do maintenance, they won’t cure anything but a crack every 6-8 weeks and you’ll be a million bucks

Thursday
Go to do an arm workout, the usual time and everything, 3pm. Super setting biceps and triceps (nothing crazy), third set on triceps (rope overhead extension) and in the 7th-10th reps I get a really sharp pain the left side of my head. I had to lean against something for a minute until it subsided enough. Attempted to go onto my next exercise but no chance with the splitting pain in my head. End workout. Headache did not fully go away that day.

Friday
Wake up fine, but after about 5 minutes a slight headache comes along with the pain in the same spot. Make it a rest day.

Saturday
Had 10 hours sleep, no headache, so I go to gym after dinner. First set of dumbbell curls (nothing crazy, just the usual weight) and the last few reps bring on the splitting head pain again in the same spot, so I end the workout.

What is happening? I've done nothing different lately. No changes in altitude, diet, sleep or anything.

Start small. Even if you just walk in the door, step on a treadmill for 5 mins and then leave, its a first step. Then you can gradually build up.
You don't have to go all out and train like you used to. Sometimes its even just walking in the door which can help motivation.

Or, chuck your headphones in, go for a couple of walks outdoors, just get moving. Then progress to something small in the gym
