The whole point of a non-profit is that the profits are absorbed back into the entity rather than being collected by owners or share holders.
Sure, and they can be 'absorbed' by simply holding them in cash in the bank (not generally a fiscally responsible method once you have enough liquidity to cover a "rainy day"), or you can spend it on things which are useful to the entity either as an investment or utility, which is what most non-profits do once they're financially secure.

And what happens when you spend the money...? You don't make a profit!

(So yeah, your post is technically correct, but it doesn't invalidate my point).

Plus most not for profits would also be expected to put their 'profits' back into the community in some way, I think that's generally the point of giving them various concessions.

So being a not for profit entity really says we should be providing a benefit to the community, so dropping the pokies makes sense because they only benefit us at the expense of others. Other people who want to make money from pokies is their own business, but thankfully it's not ours any more.

Part of me says pokies are an insidious disease, designed to prey on members of the community that can least afford it, and they should never have been legalised in the first place. As such, any move by the club to get away from such business is a positive one.

Another part of me says I would be willing to send millions of single parents and pensioners into debt if it meant we didn't have to play in the NT anymore.

A casual reminder that our B&F top 5 just five years ago consisted of Nathan Jones and then Garland (who I love but seriously), Dean Terlich, Matt Jones, and Colin Sylvia average age probably late 20s. Imagine a world where Terlich and Matt Jones are in your top four best players. Our top five this year will probably be Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, Hogan, and Hibberd (in no order - average age early to mid 20s), with genuine guns like Tyson, Viney, McDonald, Garlett, and Lever not getting a look in, not to mention N Jones. We've come such a long way :')

Just off the pokie topic for a moment, i loved this from Milkshakes, i hope it's backed up
You can tell that the fire is building in this game. Gets more vicious with every edition.

It's entertaining watching Bernie and Higgins belt each other but Id like to see us go out as a professional outfit and hurt them on the scoreboard early before we buy into their mind games.

Need help. What's the best way to book tickets for Melbourne v. Adelaide in Alice Springs? Never been before - any advice from anybody who has?
stress to the club you are a vic member and not a nt member.
Makes a difference of when they can sell you tickets

So did you completely ignore my last paragraph?
I thought I made it clear enough that a small step to me isn't worth celebrating when there are so many larger issues. If everyone wants to make a difference drop the beer the smokes the fast food etc.

Mate I've seen a lot of damage that alcohol can do to people and to me it's a lot less than pokies can do to someone. Pokies don't kill people, pokies don't assault people. You can sit in front of a machine and that's your choice but meeting a drunk person in the street who hits you and puts you in hospital.. yeah.

Good on Melbourne it's none of my business what they do really but while your celebrating the loss of pokies holding a beer, maybe you are not as good as you would like to think you are.
The afl and professional sporting bodies ditched their affiliation with smokes a decade or more ago. So, that with pokies would be 50% of your evil quartet of vices. You should be thrilled about this progress! And that your own club is leading the charge too! How good is that?!

And they did it out of the goodness of their hearts. God bless them.

This was indeed a disturbing universe.

It seemed so normal at the time. I feel like I’ll be unable to ever believe Petracca, Oliver, and Hogan are elite because the mfc doesn’t do elite players. We do good players. No one does ‘good’ like the mfc, the good ol’ middling ‘good’. But elite? We don’t **** with that shit

that's how bad our coach was at the time (no, I will not mention his name). terlich used to get about 4 goals kicked on him every week, yet the coach thought he was good because he showed a bit of dash! Roosy put an end to that crap straight out.

Very true. Imagine if by some bizarre twist of history, Neeld was coach of the dees in 2018. Our top 5 in the bluey would most probably be Josh Wagner, Jay kennedy harris, rohan bail, Billy hartung and Shannon byrnes. Trac and Oliver and Hogan tearing it up at GWS.

On a 14 hr drive from one side of Canada back to the middle so have a lot of thinking time.

Here's who I think are either in form, holding or down on form on our list. (^,-,v)

1. Hogan ^
2. Jones -
3. Salem v
4. Harmes v
5. Trac ^
6. Lewis -
7. Viney -
8. Lever v
10. Brayshaw v
11. Gawn ^
12. Tyson -
13. Oliver ^
14. Hibberd v
15. Stretch v
16. Kent -
17. Frost -
18. Melk v
19. Hannan v
21. Pedo -
23. Vince -
25. TMac ?
28. Omac ^
29. Hunt v
30. Anb v
31. Fritsch -
32. Bugg -
36. Garlett ^
39. Jetta v
42. Wagner -

So by my reckoning we only have 6 players who could say they are in form or playing their best footy.

Also some very important players down or injured.
You can either choose to be worried about that or recognize that we also have massive upside through the list especially with our half forwards and backs.

I also worry that atm all it would take is Hogan and Oliver to have a bad game against North and we lose.

Clarry doesn’t know what a bad game is. And if you flip it around, maybe all we need is a couple of the guys out of form to have decent games and we smack the Roos. I’m expecting much better efforts from Salem, ANB and Harmes this week. There’s huge improvement in us from those three alone.

Not even joking, the road across Canada from Calgary to winnipeg is one straight line for 14 hours. You could put it in cruise with a steering lock and cook a BBQ in the back seat.
So you’ll be following our fortunes today via the game day thread? Sound strategy. I’m going to watch it live and, God forbid, if Norf roll us for the 18th consecutive time it’s going to be tough to endure.

I'll probably black out big footy and watch it on delay thanks to the watch afl.
