Just played around with the ladder predictor for something to do and be as unbiased as possible.
of our remaining games against the following, how many games does everyone think we can realistically win?

Collingwood (MCG)
Western Bulldogs (ES)
West Coast (DS)
Sydney (MCG)
Carlton (MCG)
Adelaide (TIO)
Port Adelaide (MCG)
Norf (BA)
GWS (UNSW)
St Kilda (MCG)
Brisbane (MCG)
Collingwood (MCG)

IMO 11 wins is actually sneak you into the 8 this year with good percentage. 12 would see you in for sure.
At 5 wins currently and with reasonable percentage, we'd need to win every single game against teams we "should" beat and cause a couple of upsets.
Gawns inclusion will come at the right time and could provide the lift we need to knock off 1 or 2 better sides.
Of the middle of the road teams like Saints, Norf, Essendon, Collingwood, we play more current top 8 sides in the second half of the year than any of them so I think it's a stretch but keen to know everyone else's thoughts.
I've bolded the games I'd like to think we probably should win but, we all know that means jack shite.
But if we do in fact win those, our best chances to grab 11-12 wins would come from the Dogs, Sydney, Norf and Saints games.
Is a really really interesting run home mid table and not copping a thumping, whilst winning solidly will be fairly important
If we win against teams we bet the last time we played them that gives us Collingwood x2, Carlton, Adelaide, Port, GWS, St Kilda and Brisbane. That's eight wins. Assuming we lose to GWS and then drop the game v Brisbane to continue the trend of losing to the worst side in the comp each year we'll have to ensure we beat Sydney and North and then pull one back v the Dogs or West Coast to be safe on 14 wins.

Basically we're ******. I almost hope we lose this week so I can just give up hope and be done with it.

Lots more on the impact of criticism on mental health too.

The last 10 or so tweets make me like Jones a lot more, good on him for cracking back.
On the Matt Jones twitter thing, there was an article in the Herald Sun today by jon ralph about mjones specifically talking about how different footy was than he expected it to be and all the criticism that he would read online etc etc It was really interesting. He seems pretty fine about it all now, but he did suggest footy at the top level just isn't that much fun or enjoyable for a lot of the players.

Dawes came out and said something similar about "keyboard warriors" after Robbo's comments about Fasolo.
Fevola also mentioned reading comments on Bigfooty after a loss and being upset.

Id doubt it would be that much fun for most blokes, cant sneeze without it being front page of every newspaper. They can barely enjoy a beer in season and the pre season goes for 5 months. They are completely gagged in all media interviews just in case they let slip their real personality and get bashed for it. They dont really celebrate wins anymore, just move on to the next game.
Majority of blokes must be panicked about not doing there role and getting another contract for the next year. Then clubs go into rebuild and all of a sudden even if you are paying well its only your birth certificate that matters

Most blokes would enjoy country footy alot more when they retire id think

As an aside I didn't mind Taylor Adams having a little dig at us and then Bern returning fire. Nothing wrong with a little trash talk which is really irrelevant once the ball bounces
I don't mind it either, but I'm opposed to dumbass trash talk which doesn't make sense given your own history. If Dunn was playing for the Doggies or Cats now that would make sense.

Agree with this. If Pendlebury said it that's fine, but old mate Adams has lost more than twice as many games as he has won and never played in a final.

Yeh for mjones it seemed to be more about the constantly stressing over each performance to the point playing was no longer enjoyable. He said for the stars in each team its not as big an issue as they are guaranteed a game every week, but for others the over thinking whether he was doing well enough wore on him all the time. Even just the amount of training they do must be a drain on the enjoyment factor when the goal, playing, isn't apparently that much fun anyway.

The demands of the game are pretty silly when you think about it, for spectators I'm confident we were just as happy (arguably happier) watching footy 15 plus years ago before it became mega professionalised. I know at the end of the day it's all about dollars and cents, but if only a handful of the super rich players (and maybe not even them) actually get something out of all this extra money, then maybe the AFL needs to redirect its energies to making the game fun for all the players again. I'd much rather watch guys running around knowing they are "playing for the jumper" and "the love of the sport" cliches, than guys who are just doing it for the cash because they are good at it (think tennis players and golfers, many of them come to mind).

Every week I get more annoyed that we managed to lose to hawthorn and freo. for ****s sake.
Yeah, it's the difference between being pretty comfortable about a finals spot and having to scratch tooth and nail for it. We're definitely the latter. Not that we can't make it, but if we do, we'll probably be spent by the time we play any finals. You have to win those matches to be primed for a real crack in the finals. I can see us playing a month of finals in rounds 17-22 and scraping in (or out).

There's a lot of talk about our side but Adelaide/Port/Hawks/Freo/Saints/Tigers etc have all been belted in a game. We have been in every single game we have played which I don't think you could say about a Melbourne side since god knows how long. Even in 2000 we were belted a couple times.

IMO we've only been genuinely outplayed once, and that was v North
