Gawn is starting to remind me of Blease last year, dominated VFL but just wouldn't get a call-up. I think Gawn has a lot of ability but maybe Roos' thinks he is soft or doesn't work hard enough?

Howe is a natural forward, I think with Lumumba and Grimes in the side now you can't really fit him down back.
Yeah but he was first choice in the back 6
He is a better forward but I think he is too one dimensional

I'm really glad Roos came out and said that. Was overdue IMO. Can't remember in recent history if we've had a coach come out this early in the season and say that?

"They would know that [they're in danger to be cut], it's not something that needs to be dramatised," Roos said.

Somtimes I wonder Paul, I really do.

It was a tongue in cheek comment, mate. But I do think that's the only way any of us would be able to see MFC win flags and be a powerhouse.

It's funny, when I was a kid, I used to think I've got about 70-80 years ahead of me, surely we will win a flag at some point. Now I realise that half of my life is over and we've never been further from it. So it's actually becoming a very real prospect to me that I'll never see the Demons win a flag. Sad but true. You know what? I actually would go and watch the old 50's flags if they were online. Why not?
Yeah I was well aware it was tongue in cheek. Just thought I'd pose the question to everyone here.
I'm well beyond it becoming a real prospect of us not winning a flag. I seriously think with the way the comp is set up we are too far behind everyone to ever win a flag again.

Maybe the 50's are a stretch, but I would watch games from the 80's 90's early 00's definitely.
Actually I was thinking of suggesting to the MFC to replay games online - but with a theme, each round replay a corresponding win frm past years.
eg, in round 10 play a round 10 game from the past.

Not the same as Ch 7's sunday footy flashbacks that doesnt replay any old MFC games.
Thats a great idea. :thumbsu:
I do enjoy watching games from the era you mentioned. There are some good games available on youtube. I wish there were more obscure games from that era that I have forgotten the result too. It would be like watching them live again but with a better chance of winning than when we currently play. :D

Yep, I'd entertain offers for those guys. Not a lot of others worth trading for. We'd have better luck trying to get something for the table than for Dawes.
Yeh I only referred to the guys that played last week that actually have value.

Dawes will probably be kept because you need big guys in the forward 50, and our options are limited - but he'll be gone for a good offer you'd hope.

Jones, Bail, Riley, Michie etc are playing for their careers - but I'd be kidding myself if I thought they had trade value.

Er, you serious. He takes marks. That's it!
He did okay when he was down there with Jurrah or on his onesy; he had plenty of space to run and jump at the ball to his heart's delight. We've now got two key forwards plus Garlett running around who are better options (arguably Vandenberg as well) and I think old mate Howe has been shunted off to the side somewhat, and he doesn't seem to know any other way than to jump or lead for everything.

You agreed with me - he can mark (when he can run at the ball).

Yep, wasn't disagreeing, just saying why he looked a better footballer years ago compared to now. You want guys who'll get better with better players around them. He needs a midfield with impeccable delivery so he can make the most of limited opportunities.

I dont think Roos has it in for Gawn - he just likes Spencers physical approach.

Gawn is a couple of years behind Spencer as well, so Roos is probably thinking that he needs to see what Spencer can do before Jamar leaves.

Howe would get a game in the forward line for any team in the competition but he needs to be the main man down there
I dont like when people compare him to Robbo, Robbo was a gun and worked bloody well in tandem with Neitz
Na argh I don't reckon. Not in a fit Hawks or Swans forward line. Probably others.

He's not going to be the 'main' man in the forward line for any team. Maybe Carlton.
Probably brissie aswell but Yeah , I just mean that he needs to play as a full forward to be effective like Jack riewoldt, he's not smart enough to be effective as a 3rd tall

Probably not the Hawks cause they have Gunston , maybe Sydney because they still float goodes and Reid down their but yeah
