Considering a Neal-Bullen avatar to place claims on him as my man before he debuts.

Feel as though im setting him up to be given the vest though, **** it, live by the sword, die by the sword. Youre now my main man ANB.

Don't make me regret this now, Alex, I could have gone Hogan like everyone else but I chose you, do Mr.Power proud now, son.

Think we'll make Stretch the sub, out of the four guys on the bench makes the most sense to have him with the vest (**** I hate that rule).

Just on Stretch, heard second hand from a VFL listed player at Collingwood that when they played against him they were super impressed by his pace and composure, as weeks go by I think the 2014 draft might just be the most important draft for Melbourne in the past 50 odd years.

Just that initial pre match jitters in me! what makes you confident?
I just think we match up well on them.

Reiwoldt has pretty much dragged them across the line in their wins this year - and TMac is the best matchup in the comp on him. TMac will be fired up after Clokes game last week too.

They don't have any decent tall defenders - and Hogan, Pedo and even Gawn when thrown forward should clunk a few grabs today.

It's all about the midfield - but I reckon we'll be on top in the forward and backline, and that's a good start.

David Armitage and Josh Bruce worry me
Garland would have been a perfect match up for him I reckon so Dunn is gonna have to play well, Bernie to Armitage who has been outstanding this year

Will be interesting to see if Bernie goes to Armitage or Steven. You're right Armitage has been outstanding this year, but Steven seems a little bit more 'tag-able' If he gets off the chain, his run will kill us at Etihad. I'd send Bernie to Steven and back Jonesy in to go head to head with Armitage.

Viney is another one Roos has been using in a tagging role, wouldn't be surprised to see him go to Jack Steven.
That was before Bern started doing it so well, Personally Id prefer Viney to just concentrate on winning the ball at stoppages and let Bern be a little more defensive minded but I agree it would make sense to have him run around on Steven, has the legspeed to match it with him

Vince only started doing it because Viney got injured, I think Roos would prefer to develop Viney in that role than the older guy in Vince.

I agree but it's been surprising how well Vince has taken to the task, he might use both of them in the light tagging role

I'd imagine that they'll send Mav Weller to Jonesy. He's been doing their tagging so far this year.

Updated best 22 feat. only players with 10+ games experience:

FB: Jetta Dunn Garland
HB: Salem T McDonald Cross
C: Viney Vandenberg Brayshaw
HF: Vince Hogan Howe
FF: Garlett Pedersen Kent
R: Gawn N Jones Tyson

I/C: Watts Grimes Toumpas Frost/Dawes/Fitzpatrick

Missing five of those today + Pedo going down. Our KPP depth is alarmingly shallow, and our midfield depth is alarmingly young/incompetent in the cases of Bail, M Jones, Riley, Michie, etc.

Wouldn't have had Vandenberg, Pedersen, or Grimes in there at the start of the year. Current presence is some mix of them being good and others being terrible.

We can't afford to lose anyone but the blokes out except maybe Garland are all unique talent we can't replace
Kents pace and goal sense, salems decision making down back and Vanders height around the stoppages

Give it a couple of years and let JKH, Stretch, ANB, Petracca, and Toumpas come on properly. Presumably we'll draft for those attributes too once the midfield stock is stronger.

No doubt mate, I think under Neeld we were struggling to find blokes who could average 20 touches a game
Now we have Vince, Jones, Tyson and some others chipping in ... Winning the footy is no longer a problem so we can probably look for some more outside types now

9 players on the list IMO (Dawes, McKenzie, Michie, Riley, Hunt, Grimes, Bail, Jones, and Terlich) who don't have the scope to make us a better side. Dawes and Grimes maybe keep as not horrible depth, but the rest are never going to lift us up.

Can add Lumumba, Jamar and Cross* to that list. I'd also hang fire on Hunt, he's still a kid and was drafted as a project player. His development has been stunted by injury so still has the opportunity to make it.

*Cross is still doing a good job, will likely earn a contract extension at this rate but obviously isn't there for the long term.
