We could very easily slide back towards the bottom 6 if we dont beat the pies this weekend
Very much so. We can play well against Sydney and Adelaide after that but still lose and we'd be on a five game losing streak. I'm not confident on Freo or StKilda after that either. This is not to say that is what I think will happen, just that we're so unpredictable leaves me with no confidence in what we will serve up from week to week.

So apparently on SEN they were talking about Melbourne possibly reducing our NT ventures from 2 down to 1, and scrapping the Alice game. The deal at the moment through the NT deal is worth apparently $1.4-$1.7 mil though.

If anything I would've thought we scrap Darwin and keep Alice, given the weather in Alice is friendlier, and we apparently have some kind of zone there.

They were saying that the NT Gov look like they are going to remove the Alice game from the package due to them heading to an election this year also and using some of the money they are paying us on local sports development.. we won't get the choice to play in Alice instead of Darwin due to Darwin having a larger population base so they would see it as better return on investment

Ah damn.

I'd also really like to play someone other than Port for future NT ventures. They play there as often as we do so it suits them better, plus they're too fit for us in the weather. Way more people in NT also support Port than the Dees. If we actually are serious about getting supporters out of NT we need to be more competitive

One thing that is painfully obvious is we don't take enough marks in our own D50
In all of our losses the opposition team has been happy for us to bomb it long, mark it and then rebound to the open side of the ground with speed catching out our outnumbered defence who don't have the opportunity to go for their own marks because they are purely trying to cover a man or 2 with no instinct on where the footy might land

I think our game plan is out dated, we set up to win from stoppages yet the AFL has tweaked the rules so that stoppages are down on average 20? a game?
For all the good work we are doing I think we are 12 months behind and we are gonna need to change this game plan significantly again at the end of the year

In fact the plan already makes no sense to me
Why are we bringing extras to the stoppage if we are backing our selves to win it anyway? May aswell put 2 extras at half forward then to give us more options to kick too
Plus when we do win it atm we shovel it out to Hunt or Wagner or Bugg who just belt it long into the 50, why couldn't the blokes already in the midfield do that

I thought the purpose of having the half-backs push up (you all know what I'm talking about :diamonds:) is so that we have numbers around the contest, and those numbers have more space than Clayton or Viney or Jones or whoever actually extracts the ball. Then (in theory - in theory communism works) Bugg or Hunt or whoever can use that extra two seconds to actually find a target in the fifty.

The real problem as I see it is that our half-forwards don't work hard enough to spread, and our half backs don't demand that they do. Subsequently the ball gets bombed in to a pack of about twelve players at the top of the 50, making it way too easy for opposition defenders to spoil/zone off their direct opponent and put a block on Hogan while their mate takes a mark.

What would be nicer is if the half forwards led to the wings, either giving Bugg an option out wide, or creating space for Hogan to work his magic.

This whole thing is overplayed of course. The two pushing up for centre clearances is/will be just one card we play. Other than that, yes I agree that our defence has been poor this year at covering each others' players and allowing us to take third man up marks/spoils. It's something we actually used to do surprisingly well.
