I've read a couple of posts alluding to a cool relationship between Roos and the players. There seemed to be a long period of Chunk adjusting to what Roos thought was a good game from him. I've been concerned by his attitude towards playing injured players, particularly the kids. He's just been quoted as saying that Wagner has played the last four games with injections? Why?! He seems old school with concussion too. Yes, I know it's up to the doctors but he's got on the front foot very early a couple of times saying that he thought a player would be right immediately after a game.
And he has completely ****** over Jack Grimes.
I'm looking forward to Goodwin next year. Reckon the players might be too.

Don't get me wrong, he has been brilliant for us.

HOWEVER

My biggest criticism is he has gotten selection wrong MULTIPLE times this year. If you're playing a young team, rotate them FFS. I also agree on playing guys that are injured, VDB wasn't fit at all to start this year and it really hurt his form and development.

There was a review on the Hawks in the Herald-Scum this week that showed the Hawks as 18th in contested ball but 1st in forward line pressure. Thought that was pretty illuminating. Cyril and Poppy are obviously big parts of it but they don't have any lumbering forwards or guys that don't tackle in their forward half. It makes me very interested in who we have coming through that might bolster us in this area. I'd love to know the defensive intensity that Hulett and Weidemann bring. I don't think we can carry three in the forward line who can't put any pressure on the opposition. Trac, Kennedy and Harmes are good. Jeffy is hot and cold. Matt Jones might be an option. Watts, Hogan and Dawes are witches hats.

Good call mate. I still think it's better to be good at contested ball than not (the Hawks are freaks in dominating the past four years without being great at that area) but it's not the be-all-and-end-all.

Forward line pressure and the ability to rebound from turnovers are also crucial, and areas we need to get better in.

Interesting re Jones: he certainly looked a much improved player in the early part of the year but he'll be 29 at the start of next season ... I'd be happy with maybe a one-year extension.

This year's delistings will be tough! I'd say Terlich is a given, Grimes will leave as a FA, while Dunn may also look for opportunities elsewhere.

JKH, Newton and possibly one of Dawes or Pedo may also be on the edge.

It certainly won't be the huge turnover like in previous seasons.

Agree with all of this. Think Dawes will be kept ahead of Pedo. Michie also in strife

Amazingly.... we could be 14th if we have a horrible weekend

We badly need this win for the momentum of the season to not fall away
Yep.
On the edge of the 8 a week or so ago and now if we lose this one, things could turn pretty grim pretty quickly.
Won't beat St Kilda, won't beat the Eagles and GC are on the mend also so that's not a given either.
If we can't beat Freo with the issues they're currently having then this Darwin idea can really go and get ****ed because that will be two games we most likely would have won at the G.

And the longer the season goes, the worse our loss to the Bombers looks.
And it was bad to begin with!
Yes and no ... the prospect of being the only team of losing to them is pretty grim. But the team that ran out onto the G in Round 2 to a rousing and defiant crowd is vastly different to the one that is playing now. Fatigue has well and truly set in for the team made up of kids and old blokes who did half a preseason, if we were to play them this week, we'd win by 15 goals.

I think they'll be setting themselves to beat Brisbane in a couple of weeks tho.

I completely agree with you but unfortunately, they beat us and they haven't looked like winning another game since.
They definitely set themselves for it but for us not to wrestle the game back and overrun them is deplorable. They absolutely stink and we are the only team they beat, that's what the record books will show unfortunately.
Do they play Brisbane here or away?

Round 18 at Etihad ... Will likely decide who gets the #1 pick ... so they might not want to win it to be fair.

They have also come close to a few teams meanwhile, nearly gave both GWS and Geelong a scare before fading out in the last qrt in both games.

To be fair they were in front against Geelong in the 3rd quarter against them aswell and Geelong are a way better team than us

We are a much different side to the round 2 one aswell, I honestly think that adelaide game was a step forward
