Major problems in trying to pair an Apple remote I purchased with my Macbook.

Now, to the absolute best of my ability I have scoured the internet for a solution and coming up short.

I have recently purchased a standard apple remote to use with my Macbook and am getting no where.

I have followed every possible combination with the remote, followed the Security sections with the checked box etc.

I have used a friend's remote and am unable to pair his remote (which works fine with his MBP) and that isn't working either.

So this would lead me to believe there is something wrong with my Macbook, however according to these Candelair drivers I installed, it appears the IR is working fine.

What can I do? Have googled the shit out of this problem.

Ok so my computer isn't turning on. Not even "I hit the power button and this blue square turns up", just no response to me hitting the button. Now the computer was working fine in the morning when I was watching the WC. I left the computer on after I went back to bed and now I'm up again and the computer isn't turning on. I'm fairly sure it's a problem with the power supply (a month back I had a problem with a buzzing noise around that area, but after a clean up the noise went away) so I'm just wondering A) How I can confirm it? and B) How much a new power supply costs?

Thanks

ps It's a pretty old computer fwiw. I don't think I've changed the power supply/motherboard/etc since I got it in 2004.

If it does absolutley nothing i.e not even a fan spin or anything then yes it is most probably the PSU. Only real way to confirm it is to try another one and see if it works.
With costs it depends on how much power you need for your PC. You'd need to tell us what sort of stuff you have in there ot get an idea of power required. Or what the dodgy PSU was rated at. Generally you can get a solid PSU for between $50-$100

Ok this is a total n00b question, but I've just brought windows 7 and currently running vista, do I need to chuck all my videos music and shit on an external hard drive before installing?

Depends what sort of install you do. If you do an "upgrade it should save all your shit to a folder. Do you have partitions, if so just copy all the stuff you want to one and format and fresh intall on the other.

This may be a little more complex than other questions. I'll number the process of what happened to my friend's computer.

1. Playing an MMORPG (graphic intensive) computer locks up.
2. Monitor says no VGA error.
3. I tell her to reset the computer. She does.
4. Some weird lines running verticle through the screen from the moment I boot PC up
5. Managed to get to windows just fine in the end. So I go back to playing games on mine.
6. Computer freezes as she tries to load her game up
7. Reset. The lines are back and do not go away.
8. I enter bios, play around. Everything in BIOS is okay. I exit BIOS and load PC. Everything runs smooth. No problems at all.
9. Windows (VISTA) tells me that it had some sort of memory dump into her user folder and to click for problem solving, yada yada.
10. I click to go into how to solve it and it comes up with an error saying that the NVidia graphics drivers aren't loading properly.
11. There was an updated driver. I install it, restart her computer. Run intense searches for viruses, etc, etc. Nothing shows up and it's fine for the rest of the evening.
12. She goes back to her computer this morning and the lines are back and she cannot get into windows AT ALL.

From the moment you start the computer with the usual display graphics during the system boot up we see these lines. I'm assuming that the graphics card is buggered. Would I be right? If not. What else could it be?

Sounds like its most likely a problem with the graphics card. See if you can load windows just using the onboard GPU if there is one.

Hey all, don't know if I'm in the right place but just gonna fire away, got a couple of questions hope someone can answer me, thank you in advance.

I have a tv antenna in my lounge room and i want to get my tv hooked up in my room but its $120 which i cant really spare as i am a student. is there anyway i can use the one wall socket and run two antennas of it one into my room and the other in lounge ( where the socket is ) my room from the lounge is approx 20 meters? Ive looked on the dicksmith website and i said i need a splitter? is there a cord i need to run it? and will it come with plug ins to wall socket and tv?

Secondly if i get foxtel now without getting my tv hooked up can i use foxtel as tv reception?

sorry if i dont make sense as im on a break. thank you.

My university uses a hotmail based e-mail system. In the last 2 or 3 days, the format of hotmail has changed and now I cannot open my emails. I can't click on the name of the sender and when I click on the subject text nothing prompts the page to proceed into the e-mail. I've also tried clicking on all the new e-mails and trying to 'mark as read'. That doesen't work either.

Anybody know the problem/have a solution?

Thanks.

I think this is the right place to ask this question.

Is there any way to change the name of a font? When I do work on one computer in a font called 'Bank Gothic Lt' and then take it to another to print it, the other computer doesn't recognise the font, so I have to manually change it to 'Bank Gothic'. I know it's a minor thing but is there anyway I can rename the 'Bank Gothic Lt' font to 'Bank Gothic'?

^^ Guess no one got back to you about the fonts. Sounds like an odd problem.

Anyway, my issue is that I'm looking to change my internet plan. I currently have an old 60 GB (20/40) Optus 'yes' Power cable plan.

Three points
- I got rid of my home phone a few years ago (that incurs a $10 naked fee each month [the bastards])
- my current internet plan does not charge for uploads
- if I change plans, as a long time existing customer, I will not need to go under contract
- Optus off-peak times are 12am to 12pm daily, so it's not as restrictive as some ISPs.

So I'm looking at the Optus 120GB or 150GB naked broadband plans.
- How much will uploads eat into my plan? (this is my main question)
- Does anyone have the Optus premium speed pack? Any good? Value for money?

To even sample premium broadband you have to get a Cisco n-router for $150 for starters. Premium costs $20 month to month, but you can contract for 12 months and it costs $15.

One last thing. I know that once I use all of my peak data, I lose any remaining off-peak data and get throttled back to 64kbps. But what if I use all of my off-peak data? Am I correct in saying that in that case, during off-peak times, I would then be using my remaining peak data? Pretty sure that's the case. Off-peak data is considered bonus data, but they can't stop me from fully using my peak data, whether it's during peak or off-peak times.

Uploads will eat into your plan on two things, Gaming on consoles (hosting will chew through more then not) and torrents.

If you do either of them alot you will notice uploads.

I play a lot online and stuff like that. No torrents. But I think last month I had maybe 5GB upload.

Obviously with torrents you can monitor how much you are uploading.

But it shouldn't have any effect on how you use your quota each month.

If you're not hosting in gaming or you connect to dedicated hosting servers like most PC gaming you won't notice.

It cuts a bit more when you host on Live/PSN as you're uploading to everyone else in the game.

Yeah on my PS3.

Play leagues in Madden, F1, NBA.

Not going to destroy your quota. There was a slight uproar when iiNet decided to include uploads when their news plans were introduced. Then everyone realised it hardly makes a dent. My uploads are like 2-3% of my quota.

Do the ISPs such as Optus actually record uploads and downloads separately so from month to month you can exactly determine how much of your cap is being eroded by uploads? Or do they only show you a single figure for your usage?

TYVM!!! Ouch @ 1/3 of your peak data being uploads.

Even with your figures, it makes sense to go from 20/40 for $70 with uploads not counted to 50/70 for $60 with uploads counted. Or even 75/75 for $70.

I can only assume Telstra Bigpond (naked cable) works the same in that uploads are counted

My stats from last month

Total: 194009.80MB

Peak - 95427.03MB
Offpeak - 96960.97MB
Upload -6592.46MB

Hey guys,
Hopefully you can help me out here.
My laptop crashed on me after a good 5 years of service (Asus A6) and it came with the discs to be able to re-format the whole laptop. The problem is that the laptop does not turn on anymore, when the on button is pressed, it only displays there is power and then just goes off.
Would anyone have any diagnosis for my problem? Or would it be best to take it to a shop?
Thanks =]

24/7 torrent seeding for a private tracker will do that to ya :p
