G'day
Wonder if anyone may be able to help? As I'm not familiarly with how people lift a paragraph or two from someone else's post then comment on it.
I have tried the Mouse copy and paste thing. But it just looks as though its typed in. And isn't greyish in colour and is not recognisable as another poster that i commenting/replying to.
can you help?
Thanks:)

I'm assuming you know about the quote button on the bottom right of each post?

If you do copy and past it, all you need to do is add a: [ quote] text you've copied [ /quote]

*get rid of the space inside the [ ] brackets so it works.*

If you want their name: [ quote=dylan123] text [ /quote]

No problem, good to see you've got the quotes working to your power now! :thumbsu:

The little +" right next to the quote button is for multi quotes as well, so if you want to quote me and a post above you click that button on both posts and it will go blue (to show its been selected) then click the quote button and you will see multiple quotes pop up.

Thanks for the help with regards to the old PCs at my partner's workplace. We've decided against it. Actually, I could have saved the issues as she purchased one of them prior to me moving in with her (for herself) and didn't tell me that that was where she got the computer from. Had a good play around with it over the weekend and came away knowing that it would take too much work to upgrade it to what I want.

However, we've been looking up computers over the weekend. Now considering purchasing a fully loaded Alienware model for about $2000 or this beast from MSY;

http://www.msy.com.au/SYSTEMS/INTELAMD-GAMERENTERTAINMENT4.pdf

The only questions that I have are.... How much overkill, if any, is the
Intel Core i7-2700K 3.50Ghz 1155pin $2040 system for gaming purposes? Am I that much better off spending the $150 on it than the i5-2500k? Aside from the more expensive video cards (which I wont, sadly) what upgrade options should I take up?

Thanks again all. Drinks are on me!

Wouldn't bother with Alienware, it's decent but way overpriced. I'd also call that $2k system overkill. If you can afford it then go for it, but you'll see better bang-for-buck from something like a 2500k and using that money to get an SSD and possibly upgrade that AOC monitor..... assuming it's a typical low quality yum-cha screen.

Hi all, I have a pretty basic knowledge of computers and need some help. I purchased a new dell desktop with Windows 7, I then needed a wireless usb reciever to get on the net so i got a Belkin one, went home and surfed the net (Internet Explorer) for about an hour, no problems, ran real fast. The next day & subsequent days the internet explorer was not working at all, rang iinet & Belkin who pretty much blamed each other so wasn't much of a help.

Had a mate in IT come look at it & try some various things, and he couldn't get it working, even connecting the ethernet to the desktop the Internet Explorer would not work, however Internet Explorer still works on my laptop, xbox and my iphone & ipad all have fine wireless connections so I am pretty sure it isn't iinet. He didn't thnk it was the Belkin either.

Am stumped on what to do from here (especially given the fact it did work at the start), obviously I can use my other devices to get on the net but will need my desktop at some point. If anyone can give me a solution i'll buy them a bottle or a carton

Can you access anything on your local network from either wireless or the ethernet? eg. the router (through the web interface), xbox, or laptop?

Yes on everything but the desktop, it sounds crazy and I would understand it a lot more had it not worked for that 1 hour.

I can always call Dell online but have been told they aren't the most helpful.

Yeah sorry, thats what I meant. Hold down the Windows key and hit R, then type "cmd" and hit enter. Once the black window comes up type in "ipconfig" and hit enter. Does anything appear under IP address?

G'day

What's the file size of the GIF? There's a limitation on that. Also if you are not a Gold or Platinum subscriber, I don't think you can have animated gifs in your avatar.

Facebook I believe doesn't support animated gifs.

I can't have an animated gif and I'm a freaking mod! :p

Thanks for all of the help on building my computer system in PMs and through here, in particular to dav3.

Now I'm trying to find a system for my girlfriend who would love to play World of Warcraft with me and a couple of American/Canadian wrestlers who we know quite well as our social outlet.

I know it's not the "OMFG it's jizz worthy" type computer that the guys over on Whirlpool would recommend but as I said she wants it to play WoW. Is the following a good enough system for WoW?

http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/desktops/dell-inspiron-v260202au-620-mt-pc/665644

2nd Generation Intel Core i5-2320 3.0GHz CPU
8GB RAM
1TB HDD
DVD Super Multi
Wi-Fi and BT
1GB Graphics Memory
AMD HD6450 Graphics
1 HDMI Ports
8 USB Ports
Windows 7 Home Premium

We're also looking at getting a monitor (I've studied that up plenty well enough (she wants the same LG monitor that I've got)) and a TV through the same place so getting the price knocked down a bit will not be a challenge (probably a hundred off the lot, easy).

I don't know anything about that graphics card but everything else would be more then enough and if that graphics card comes with that then it should easily be able to run WoW.

Problem thread? Question thread? Can someone with Foxtel IQ answer two questions?

1. Can you record all free-to-air channels, SD and HD?
2. Ever remotely programmed something to record, eg. via the web or a Foxtel app? Is that done through the phone line or internet (cos I don't have a home phone)?

1. If you have the Foxtel HD IQ you can record all the channels, if you only have the SD IQ you will not see One HD, Gem HD, 7 Mate HD, SBS HD, ABC News 24 HD

2. Use the iphone app regularly and the foxtel online tv guide sometimes. Both work over the internet (the only phone line i have in the house is for my broadband and it's not connected to the foxtel) and the only problems i have run into is that if you aren't the only one who uses the foxtel you can occasionally schedule more than 2 programs to record at the same time which will cause one to fail.

I keep getting a DNS conflict on my laptop at home, requiring me to reboot my wireless router.

Is there any reason this might be occurring? Windows says it might be because 2 computers on the network have the same IP address. My housemate uses a couple of computers - could that be the problem? If so, how can I stop it happening?

You could assign all the computers static IP addresses so when they restart and such they stick to the one address rather then changing.

If someone has already assigned themselves an IP address, perhaps changing that will fix it.
