Chris Hartley has announced he will retire at the end of the season. Will be sad to see him go, has been an absolute rock for qld for so many years. Joins an illustrious group of players who were very unlucky not to play significant amounts of test cricket. Just came along at the wrong time. If he was 6 years younger and playing the cricket he has been the last 4-5 years he'd be a shoe in for the test side at the moment. A genuinely nice guy to boot and always good for a chat.

Recently beat Darren Berry's record of most dismissals affected by a wicket keeper in shield cricket too.

Phenomenal partnership by Smith and Maxwell. Sucked the air right out of India.

If we can bat for at least two sessions tomorrow we are in an amazing position. The pitch will both crack and quicken up in the coming days. Winning that toss was huge.

The loss of Kohli in the field can't be understated either - things worked out pretty well for Aus once he went off and India lost their enforcer.

That said, I must admit I never thought Maxwell was capable of that. Initially he looked like toast against the spinners but he fought through that period and dominated the tired four-pronged attack late in the day. He batted like a seasoned Test pro

Lets hope he can continue today.

Also the bizarre love affair the Aus selectors had with Paine who is an inferior keeper and batsman to Hartley.

The Australian selectors have spent the best part of a decade trying to find the next Gilly instead of picking the best keeper/batsman combined. Gilly was a once in a generation player, sometimes you just need to pick the best instead of picking the next.

It's the same thing with an all-rounder. If there's one who's good enough then fine, bit if there's not you're better off without one

Jesus, we might just hang on here. Once we get into the lead again every run is rolled gold.

Help save this test and all is forgiven Smarsh.*

* for the next test. Then you're on notice again.
