Hi all,

The General Talk forum is now open for business. Wrap up your non-footy conversations in the main AFL board and start any new non-footy threads in the new General Talk forum.

The reason for this is to allow those with limited time and/or slow connections to read the footy related posts without having to sift through the general chatter.

Any new general chatter threads that appear on the AFL board from now on will be removed.

Of course, this presents the philosophical dilemma as to where general life ends and footy begins. If, indeed, football is a microcosm of life, then surely all things would be related.

For example, I might wish to talk about the supernatural element in MacBeth. You would probably say, "Oh well, go to the General Talk forum because that's got nothing to do with football."

But would that be strictly true?

In MacBeth the tragic central character is led to believe, by supernatural forces, that he is destined to achieve greatness. The witches' prophecy becomes self-fulfilling.

Could this not be seen to be, in a sense, related to much of the psychological motivation that coaches use to make their players believe they are capable of achieving greatness.

So, my point is that it is clearly a gross over-simplification of life to divide life's many and varied into issues into some arbitrarily defined division between "footy-related" issues and "non-footy related" issues.

Life is simply life. And footy is part of it.

So, where does this post belong?

Here ... or in General Talk?
