Does anyone else have this feeling that we are up to our necks in the trade for Heath Shaw?

Things are too quiet on this front & I can see him coming to us for less money purely because of his brother & the chance to win a flag or two.
The popular thought is that his trade is holding up everything else.
they want Jesse White. Armstrong has been mentioned. I won't be surprised to see him at our club with a Buddy like shock announcement.
I think what is holding things up is the allocation of compensation picks which I believe will be finalised at the end of the Free agency period, once these picks have been sorted I think there will be a flow of trades, whether of not that means Shaw to us i cant be sure ;) (terrible pun)

well everitt lamb and Armstrong are only maybe gone

in franklin, rampe, b jack, biggs though
Yer be interesting to see what happens with them 3 guys being out of contract. Rampe is very very quick maybe even as quick as Shaw and with LRT and Johnson back in 2014 that's means Rampe will not be that 3rd tall which he struggled a bit this year due to his height which is totally understandable but he takes the game on at times and can break the lines can next year with Lrt and AJ back can Rampe be used as a Mattner , Shaw role which will suit him to a tee. If he can clean up his disposal he could be damaging ?

Thought it was interesting that he was quoted last week as saying he would take less money to go to a club that was a contender. Couldn't think of any other club that was aimed at ...

I ain't going to complain since we are a club that is definitely a contender. But i think we're starting to see a lot of decent players move to clubs in Premiership contention for less money which is more less starting to create a competition not to dissimilar to how the EPL is setup. Not necessarily to that extent because we have a salary cap, but i'm getting the feeling that perhaps the phases of bottoming out and reloading with draft picks for a shot at Premiership contention is going to become a thing of the past with how free agency is going to affect a lot of clubs struggling at the bottom.

Not sure how it all works, rookies etc Id like to see it broken down after retirees and signings so far, perhaps even with guestimates on what current player are earning. Then maybe chat about whats left.
well correct me if im wrong on the following please

2014 cap is 9.632 million
vets over 30 with 10 years at club have 120k of wage excluded from cap- goodes, okeefe, malceski and LRT next year
70k is minimum wage
54k is minimum rookie wage
half of rookie wage counts in cap
international rookies don't count in cap
ASA increases to $962 839 in 2014
COLA is 9.8% so $943936
if our list is same as last year will be 38 players and 7 rookies

I agree with you and at the moment I'm happy about it - but maybe that would be different if I supported another club.

I actually feel a bit sorry for supporters of clubs like St Kilda. They are looking like using the same plan that they had 10 years ago - load up in the draft and challenge again in 5 yrs. But, as you said, free agency and the desire to be at a club that challenges has changed everything. I can see clubs like us, Hawthorn and Geelong being around the top 4 (or at least challenging for it) for the next 10 years whilst teams who choose to be uncompetitive (even if they think it's just in the short term) will remain so.

Thats a full list with cola left to spend so almost a million to use
We could always get another power tall forward or two.

You can never have too many of them.

Awesome effort by the way. I can't really argue too much with any of the numbers and they seem about right which completely pisses me off no end.

As i said i found the rules in diff spots so may be wrong only one i saw was minimum wage is 70k for a listed player
I think that's the minimum you pay them, but in terms of cap you apparently have to have space for 120k so if they play, you pay them. This is as per Pykie, one of the drafting wizzes. I'd back in a lot of what he says with the technicalities of the draft.
