Yes this ^ If we play our cards right and pick up a really good crop of youngsters that can set you up for premiership glory in years to come, ala 2009 for us and Geelong in I think 1999 draft? I do acknowledge 2009 for us was manly drafting other guys in but there was also Jetta, Rohan, Reid as rookies.
Agree it could almost be like another rebuild without bottoming out free agency is going to be good for us

Pick 2 looks like its going to be James Aish, I watch James regularly and I'm not quite sold on him.
Last time we had picks like this it was Rohan @ 6 and Jetta @ 14
Who do you think are the top picks from this years draft excluding Boyd?
With regards to Boyd, Ive seen quite a bit of Boyd and to be honest he doesnt do a great deal for me. He is so much bigger than everyone in the 18s and it hides the fact that he isnt the greatest footy player ive seen.

GWS are going hard at some players behing the scenes. Last Friday Dale Thomas was likely to go to GWS...now, well I think his strong relationships at Carlton will still get him there.

They have to go hard, all they have managed to do is pay massive overs for a 27 year old injury prone ruckman. This was suppose to be the trade period where GWS announced to the competition that they were able to pull in the big names.

Smith is vital to our structre and at the same time I cant see any side seeing pick 5 a worthwhile trade for Smith.
Roos absolutely loves him and knows his worth but it would need to be a Smith+ deal to get anywhere near their pick 2, maybe Smith & Everitt? Notwithstanding this i'd be very disappointed if he goes.

Just looking at the numbers I'm very confused as to where we are heading.

Most clubs run the full senior list of 40 players, in 2013 we only ran with 38. Three retirements, one delisting, one trade/steal out in Mumford, one definite trade out in White, leaves us 32.

Franklin in, only Rampe will be upgraded, list now 34.

We currently (after probable FA compo picks) have ND picks 15, 34, 53, something late 60s, plus what we get for Jesse, in the 20s?. So if no one else is traded out, we need to use four picks just to get our senior list back up to 38 players. That's pinning our hopes on picks 15, 28, 34 & 53. Not confident in what the experts say is an ordinary draft past pick 20.

So to trade out any more players seems fraught with danger to me.

Very interesting! My guess is that we might package some draft picks/players together to get some higher draft picks, I think baring in mind the draft is a bit thin we will try and get as many of our draft picks under 30 as possible so we are not just pissing in the wind when it comes to our later selections.

I would have thought smith would be one of the last guys to be considered to be traded.

U wouldn't be too upset if mglynn got traded. Lamb would step straight into his role .

I'm not too keen on losing McGlynn the small forward role always seems to be an area we have trouble with. He gave his all against Freo who were dominating everyone. I thought all year without injuries we would be a dominant side in the comp so it seems very strange to get Buddy in and make drastic changes. Hope the club knows best and I guess they sure know more about these things than me.

If we are looking to free up coin it would be a good move to get rid of him as he'll be 29 next year

Tippo, Franklin, can we spend it a third time? Is that legal?

Remember we have to consider paying all our top 5 picks, kick backs to recently retired players, 'culture keeping allowance fund' and be able to match all third party media/advertisement deals given to our players
