No home final for Glenorchy
Clearly their is no advantage in being top of the ladder. I think the Prelim & GF matches at either Boot Park or Spark Park is correct. The other finals should be played at the home ground of the club higher on the ladder. The should get some benefit for their season.

Well there is an advantage, you get a week, a double chance and don't have to travel. I am not totally against the idea, although Glenorchy are a bit stiff considering Burnie get one.

Weren't all the southern finals back in the old statewide league played at North Hobart?

No. They played some semifinals at KGV.

Interestingly KGV is a better facility now than in the first SWL. Obviously Boot Park & Spark Park have had $10s of Millions spent on them. Sadly NHO, WPO & Devonport Ovals have changed very little the last 16 years since the first SWL.

I wonder what the parameters are to get a final?

Ok, just had a quick look and they played some finals at KGV from 86-89 and not necessarily matches involving Glenorchy either and from then on all at North Hobart in the south.

Glenorchy should get a home final, that's a joke. KGV is fine for 1st week of finals. I bet if Kingborough were playing they would play at twin ovals. If you qualify for finals the 1st week should be the following

Clarence and Lauderdale playing at Bellerive
Hobart City playing at Nth Hobart
Kingborough at twin ovals
Glenorchy at KGV
Devonport at Devonport Oval
Burnie at West Park
Nth Launceston and Launceston York Park

Its just common sense, something we haven't been used to by the previous administration

Its clearly going to benefit North Launceston and Launceston as the talent in the region will only be split between two teams not three. That is obvious. It wont make any difference to the coastal teams. There has been a lot of discussion as to whether Launceston can support 3 teams. Im not sure if it can but I do think only 2 teams in Launceston is giving them a better mix than the other two regions in terms of population ratio per team.
Its only obvious via assumption that there is enough TSL talent to fill 3 sides from Launceston region. Just because 3 sides can be filled with numbers, does not mean that they are truly up to TSL standard and be able to make the 'benefit' tangible when dispersed into 2.

History shows there has never been a time where all teams were 'up and about'. When one team sits high on ladder, there has always been a side or two down the bottom. This is because the depth of talent just isn't there.

Wasn't the demise of WST meant to top up North & Launny? This flawed logic delivered us Prospect D League and sees Launny near bottom and North every chance not to make GF. Then add on the additional travel, increased expenses and loss in revenue that will come from not having the 3rd Launceston team to play against and I believe the passage of time will show that any perceived benefit will be non existent.

Zane Littlejohn been appointed development coach at Brisbane Lions starting in 2017. Is a great endorsement for the competition
Endorsement, yes. Another drain on Tassie football, certainly.
We export our brightest & best. What do we get in return? Fly in clubs after money? Thats about all, its just more one way football traffic out of Tasmania.
Well done AFL.

I take a different view in that it will open the door for ex AFL or VFL/SANFL players or coaches as they will see how TSL can be a great pathway. It also may inspire budding Tasmanian coaches to follow in Zane's & Bolts footsteps. Whilst we ultimately may not be able to keep them long term, we can benefit from the time we have them.

**** me you are such a whinger
*****me, Its just that I dont like gratuitous violence in the game, or seeing Tassie footy give & give & get SFA back.
Call it whinging if you like. You may like the way footy is in Tassie. You probably dont remember how strong it was before the AFL. They promote everywhere else. but demote here.
I guess ignorance is bliss.

A career move like this has been on the cards for a while in my opinion. Zane has done an outstanding job with North. I heard a rumor a few weeks ago that North may have already been having discussions with somebody currently involved in the TSL. I wont mention a name just in case the rumor was incorrect. Sorry to tease you all.

As I pointed out 2 teams in Launceston gives that region a higher population/teams ratio than the other regions and its a no-brainer that the 2 current clubs in Launceston wouldn't want another side whether it could be justified or not. Three teams may be stretching the talent a bit but 2 is too generous in comparison with the other regions in my opinion.

Thats fine, feel free ;)

Yes its a great opportunity for the guy. Its just a pity we have no real pathway in Tasmania. He's just another export.

Yes the population to team ratio changes, however how does this benefit the two teams that remain if there is insufficient talent in the first instance? I don't subscribe to the notion that it's a given that they will automatically benefit. Just my view.

The 3 Launceston teams have all won a premiership in the last 6 years, why do they all have to be up the top at the same time? Every comp has to have top and bottom teams.

Its a massive advantge going forward if there is only the two clubs, how can it not be?

Reasons vary why each club won a flag ranging from inequality of finals locations, salary cap rorting through to a club just getting everything right on and off field with help of gun coach, key recruits and a bit of luck along the way to survive 1st Semi final and Glenorchy missed opportunities of 2015. I also feel the northern clubs got their act together off field well in advance of the Southern teams and this also gave them the 'jump'.

The inference is that no 3rd team = North & Launceston getting too strong. It's a populist view but I do not subscribe. Its not that simple IMO.

These two teams now need to travel more. As we all know, travel = losses. Add on fatigue and all of a sudden there are some negatives that would not be as prevalent with 3 teams. Top 3 finishes on the ladder may not be as easy as have been in recent years.

Costs will increase for each club given travel and more crucially, reduced revenue. As Darren Winter well knows, the Clarence games pay the bills. He is a smart cookie. If revenue drops, can coin be found as easily for a Tarrant or Holland? Could flags have been won without them?

I also believe the talent pool is quite thin and in need of attention in the North. This was evidenced when WST vanished as did all the players. North got 0 and Launceston 2 or 3 only. Hardly the 'topping up' that clubs voted on out of fear.

The D League also paints a sorry picture with Prospect uncompetitive and Launceston & North in 4th and 5th only. There is also no junior pathway of note after U16 football hence why North & Launny play in STJFL U18 Youth League.

Whilst at least one Launceston team should always be competitive/strong, I doubt we will see 2 powerhouses as a direct result of reducing from 3 teams down to 2.

Time will be the best provider of the answers.

I take your point and respect your opinion on that but lets remember that over the last 5 years 3 different Northern sides have won 4 of the last 5 premierships and Launceston were runners up to Burnie in the other one. That all happened while there were 3 teams in Launceston. I know South Launy were broke and Western Storm was a disaster but based on the last few years there seems to be enough talent for 3 teams, whether there is enough money and support for 3 teams is another matter.

The money sIde of it applies to all teams. I know one if not 2 clubs down here cant pay the full salary cap now.
The way its going, southern sides will struggle to compete come finals time.

Not enough revenue for those clubs and AFL distribution not enough to cover the gap?
No.
Remember the clubs have to pay to get junior development done & comply with a heap of AFLTas requirements. Also playing northern teams means almost no opposition supporters which costs clubs heaps.
I know NHCFC pay many times more to play on NHO when compared to SFL clubs on those grounds. Also the costs of extra training nights, gym facilities etc. It all adds up.

Sure does add up and doubt costs are a level playing field for clubs, especially where councils are involved.
