Cmon Hoops, that is a pro. I happen to think that we have had the best style of hair out of the BB and Gen X and the great Gen Y

Yeah lil Easy. You are right. Gen Y hairstyles are phenomenal. You win.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Now go warm up your hair straightener and practice that shitty shuffle dance you love so much while you wait. The mirror will still be there when you get back. :thumbsu:

The older I get the more I think that older generations are judgemental w***ers.

I don't know if I am Gen Y or not (Born in 1981) but I certainly don't think I fit in with the average 20-22 year old. They are cut from a different cloth. But it staggers me to see how judgemental those from the Gen X era are to those younger than them. You'd think they were a bunch of angels who were always frugal, never dealt in any dicey fashions and were always wholesomely supportive of authority figures. Give me a break.

That right there is whats wrong with you muppets.

I'm no fan of the emo genre, but maybe some of you should look in the mirror?

What some of you BB/Gen-X'ers fail to realize is youth have always been experimental & expressive no matter the generation.

It's only because of the internet, which causes the current trend to expand into widespread knowlege that you become ignorant of your past.

That's what's wrong with you muppets.

Can't deny that i was one of the millions of kids that had a Kurt Cobain style mop in the early 90s and in my uni days just let it run wild, but mainly because i wanted to save my bucks for beers and fun rather than a haircut. :o Times are tough as a student. :D

I still don't believe I was ever as self absorbed and demanding as the current crop of 15-25 year olds and I can definitely say that the kid I posted above has the whole "look at me/I'm different/life's so unfair, I'm so hard done by/too cool for school" look about him that would have been flogged out of most of Gen X kids if we turned up anywhere looking like that.

Now for a sweeping generalisation....
"The sour look on his face is probably because Mummy didn't buy him the latest game for his PS3. Imagine if he had a real problem?" :D

Cmon Cake, even you'd wanna tell that little knob to get the hair out of his eyes and start getting a clue about what matters in life surely?

Another point is.. to get his hair like that, the kid has spent hundreds of dollars on the style, and then has to get up, straighten his hair and spend ages preening it each morning to get his "look" just right. To me, no 15-16 year old kid should be spending that much time obsessing over themselves in a mirror.

I'm laughing so hard at this comment. How you can know he is sad over his PS3?

BTW, about .0001% of the gen y population would say that hair looks good. How can it be said that all gen yers are like this, i don't know.

It's ironic, isn't it?

Get a clue. :D

Gen Y have the advantage of the internet that is all...but I have to shake my head at things like:

As on this board there is a thread about "Is it okay to steal eskies at a BBQ or a Party...WTF

Gate crashing parties...WTF (and the resultant bashings and anti social behaviour associated with it..

Lack of respect - yes we were all young but I know we never had fun at someone elses expense

Never destroyed public property...

all in all...its a different time with differing technology, whilst we went out and played sport and went fishing for the weekend, this generation is more sedentry.

I also feel this generation expects to much without having to actually do anything for it, I had two jobs when I was 15.

My daughter is 16, so I experience it all first hand.

Were you going to school & studying full-time?

Pleeeeeeeease.

Why so judgemental? In a society like today, you should realize how hard getting a job is, let alone good pay. It ain't easy to work yourself up these days & no 16 year old would find it possible to study full-time & juggle two jobs without a significant amount of abnormal stress. I call your bluff, and TBH, you people practically coined the term "dole bludger".

If you think the 'internet' or technology is the only difference, maybe you really do need that good ol' 'fountain of youth'.

Yes I had two part time jobs and attended secondary school full time and my daughter currently has one.

I maybe that, from the age of first year secondary my parents made me become self sufficient and self accountable. Harsh but fair in my opinion.

I don't buy into the stress...(thats the difference and its just an exxuuse) what about kids that have to work farms and still get an education, its all about how the present culture and family values treat the child. Give it to them on the plate and you will receive a response like yours, make them realise that you need to work to get that IPOD or gaming consoles and games. Do it all for them and you have the current generation and its associated problems.

That's why the comment was prefixed by "Here's a sweeping generalisation"...

I've got no idea why he is sad, or if he is even sad, I was just trying to make a point that some kids today get wound up over trivial matters and feel downtrodden when really they've probably had it the best of the last 2-3 generations. They are living in a society that will help them find housing and a job, pay their uni fees and provide free health services for mental health problems, addictions, grief counselling etc. I work in the education sector now and know that if a student (or student's family) is struggling - academically, socially, financially - every possible option is explored to try and give them the best opportunity to do something positive and constructive with their lives. You wouldn't have to go back too far to the days where troubled kids were just left to find their own path, railroaded into menial labour or other dead end jobs and just told to "Get over it" when they had a problem. Basically, there is no excuse for not skilling up or taking advantage of community services in 2009. Gen Y is given every opportunity. If you are not gifted academically, then there are many vocational education programmes, trade apprenticeships, cadetships and short courses in just about anything you could imagine or want to do.

Gen Y have been gifted a great start, and don't appreciate what has been given to them. :)

This thread is just going around in circles, I bet in 20 years time us Gen Y'ers will be having a go at the next generation. There is no right or wrong answer, it all just stereotypes and generalisations.

Your probably right. But I just wanted to see what other generations thought about us, obviously all bad. :p

Depends also on whether you think each generation is getting worse. In which case, Gen Y bashing is very valid.

Not having a go, but how many hours a week did you work and what did this work entitle you to do?

I worked 24 hours a week, it was hard to juggle the two, school and work, but it wasn't about entitlement, it was about the freedom to make my own choices as I money to pay for my own holidays or whatever else I needed. Simply, from year 8, I had to do this or I would of got squat from my parents, there rule and in the end, I benefited from the experience..
