Your giving Simmo too much leeway isn't he the one who said we're Bringing in some A Graders in a 32 yr old Priddis and a 30 yr old Leccras talking about a dreamer who hasn't a clue ..
My feeling after that game is his coaching career is that its probably over. Media has turned, body language post match is reminiscent of all the dead man walking scenario's of recent times. If he doesn't turn this group of players around, things are going to get ugly. I don't think he can turn this group of players around, as a collective something's broken about them. I said way back that if the situation descends this kind of blood in the water shit show over his job I'd probably start defending him because I'd feel sorry for him. Simmo's job is tied to the form of the players he picks to go into battle for him each week, that form will undoubtably seal his fate. Its not about kicking him in the guts for falling short where many others have also fallen short, most senior coaching careers are brief. I want to know the same thing he wants to know, and what the next coach is going to want to know, whats actually wrong with these players? And whats the solution?

Means nothing but just thought I would share the impression I got of Tim Gepp when he spoke after the Geelong game. Saw him for the first time that night, no idea what he even looked like before then and had only ever heard mention of him on here.

Far from the man in the shadows that I was expecting, he was more like a father Christmas type. So like jolly and semi-drunk to the point of looking lost. Rambling way of speaking, or probably gushing is the right word. Gushing about players and character and all that stuff etc, looked like he was in love.

Paraphrasing, but was something like:

"Simmo asked me about Drew Petrie, and I said, Simmo, if you say that he is a great guy then let's just bring him in, if you say he is a great person then I'll take your word for it and let's do it. If you say that he is one of the best players to have around then let's get him here. So much experience, and he's a great guy and you want to have those type of guys at your footy club."

Anyway yeah, for what it's worth.

******* disgraceful.

This is part of the problem, the main core don't want it enough. Don't work hard enough and when push comes to shive they simply don't give a flying **** about it.

Good Post, what is wrong with this group as a collective? it's a great question. Why does it seem that they don't want to succeed? Why is it they are not prepared to go that extra mile to help out team mates? There simply has to be much more to all of this, no club could ever be that unlucky to get 42 players all at one time who don't give a rats.

Geez this mornings West has certainly put the cat among the pigeons.I knew we were reluctant to play youth but i didnt realise how reluctant.Eight players 21 and under blooded in three years.Really thats a disgrace.Im glad the heat is really on and in public.People on big footy have a pretty decent knowledge of footy and have been pushing this barrow basically since the losing GF.Its nice to see the media suddenly realising all is not well in Eagle land.We have a good core of players but now need to have a mini cull.interesting times.

Maybe, but unlike simmo John Kennedy snr would have dropped and delisted them.
the fact that simpson rated le cras and priddis to come back in shows he has no clue and should be sacked if he doesnt drop em permanently this weekend
I have two theories on this - maybe you are right that it's all Simmo making or not making the changes, but I get this feeling that there are people behind the scenes dictating the terms! Whatever it is things have to change. Can't recall the supporter base in general being so hostile - I'm sure Nisbett and others have had to sit up and take notice.

I think when a few don't compete of fluff it under pressure every time the impact on the others is slow but inevitabel.

It's not 42 players.
In my view it's the core group that cost Worsfold his job and they are about to cost simmo his if he doesn't do anything about it.

The kids are busting their guts trying to win.
That's why I defended Duggan, yes it may have been the wrong decision but his urgency in the game and hunger trying to score was the good thing in that.

I was wondering if that GF loss just did too much damage to some blokes confidence, whether the pressure of being that one Eagles side who truly lowered their colours on a day the club has such a rich history of success is too much. Fremantle lose in similar fashion, no one cares, it doesn't haunt them the same way because there is nothing to compare it to. Our game however, the expectation because of what the club and the players who came before them have achieved was that we win, or a at minimum lose honourably. We lost dishonourably that day. Psychologically, its probably significant, the internal pressure that you'd feel in the lead up to every game thats seen as a must win, the pressure you'd feel in every 4th quarter when the other side is hunting you and the consequences of losing the match and how it'll reflect on your character are about all you can think about. Our players go to water in those situations, when the pressure is off we are fine.

I don't think its 42 players though, the younger players coming through in general show a lot more fighting spirit. They didn't play in that game. And its not every senior player. And some of the senior players who cop a lot of flack, they were actually very poor in big games even before that loss. So i'm not saying its the only reason. I'd bet its one of the big reasons though. And the solution, well its probably something completely counter intuitive like just saying **** it, lets not take ourselves too seriously lads, its a game, lets enjoy playing our footy, the expectations coming from people outside these 4 walls are meaningless. Lets just stop and take a break for a minute from being so disappointed in ourselves and putting pressure on ourselves to be the best, its clearly not working.

I know you don't mean every player really, as certainly wouldn't put JK in that mould. Wouldn't even put Priddis in that category as feel he puts everything into what his body allows him to, but unfortunately he is cooked (this is where the coaches and/or MC fall down as on present form he shouldn't be selected - since Priddis had back surgery in the off season he has not been the same player). It's the collective that's the problem and the midfield mix is just so out of whack which effects the rest of the team. Probably if you took any of our midfielders and individually put them in another side where there were other midfielders with a bit of speed, they probably would go okay? We just have too many midfielders of a similar type - Priddis, Mitchell, Hutchings, Redden, Sheed and any others I may have missed. Also our coaching panel as a collective are so inexperienced.

Confidence or lack of is a very strange thing - when you lose it it takes time to regain and with some failure will permanently effect them. Do we have a Psych in the Club - srs question?

I'm wondering how many players it takes to get a collective.
3? 4?
What is the collective this Simpson is espousing

It's a ******* diversion from naming the players that are ******* our club.
Individuals make up the collective

Individuals like Lecras, priddis, hill, Masten, Cripps and to a lesser extent Hurn and Shuey that are ******* our club with zero intent when the game is on the line.
Not a contested possession in the last quarter from any of them.

What a damning statistic.

Right now Simpson should be drawing a line through the following players

Priddis, Lecras, hill, Masten, Cripps

And put Shuey and Hurn on notice.

To put it in context though our development over the past few years since the EP alignment has been RS and by appointing such inexperienced coaches hasn't helped.

Just to educate you a collective can be a few or many (eg a whole team);)

I want to give him some slack and he has been half truthful about where we're at, but his constant defence of senior spuds is a disgrace. They're shit. Priddis, lecras, Mackenzie, masten, Mitchell and Petrie should all have a farewell game

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app
His interview on 6PR wasn't defending Priddis. And I reckon as the questions have intensified he is probably just defensive of a club champion and someone who recovers and trains harder than anyone to play footy. But doing those things got Priddis a shot in the first place. They are not enough now to cover his widening shortcomings.

Im sure Simmo and Priddis have discussed his future in private and he will get a royal send off when the time is right. He probably wishes the fans gave Priddis a bit more respect but I reckon he has maybe tried to make up for that a bit by giving him games to redeem himself. Hasn't worked and its time to honour a legend of the club and play the next generation.

Simmo appears a good sort of guy. Who places too much trust into his senior core group because he's a young Coach with a young group of assistants..

I would give till the end of 2018 though to see if he can make the changes to his 22 and turn this team around ..

I feel he is trying to inject youth without upsetting his trusted senior group of players some of whom are past it or a shadow of there best games ..

The match committee and Simmo are paying the price for not dropping Le Cras and other underperforming players last year.

Le Cras should have been dropped a few times last year after continued failures interstate, but Simmo kept backing him in.

A bunch of us on here were arguing for him to be dropped to send a message but the "runs on the board" and the "who in the WAFL is knocking the door down?" arguments were generally provided. I imagine the MC had a similar opinion.

Now they are shitting themselves trying to fit in young players but they could have given Karpany, for example, more than one game last year and given Lecca a stint for the Royals, and maybe this situation would have been mitigated somewhat.

The MC screwed up by being too conservative last year and we are paying for it now

Of course I don't mean every individual player but it is a team sport and there is no I in team and that means no one in the team can escape it. The whole group have to wear it and that is what a team sport is all about as you know.
Shuey would be a superstar playing at GWS or Geelong because he has other similar players around him, with us he has to carry the load as star of our midfield and over the course of a season it weighs down on anyone.

We probably do, or at least consult with one. My guess would be that for the majority of people the stigma of needing to talk to the psych about your issues is enough that you don't utilise them as much as you should/could/would. Much better is the problem is fixed by someone you trust and respect like a coach or player mentor rather than someone your naturally suspicious of. Have always had the impression that the blokes in clubs who spend a lot of time with the sports psychologist are a minority, which I completely understand.

By what criteria do people think Simpson keeps his job? Without his ineptitude we are sitting 4th right now not 9th. Horrendous team selections, players out of position, that circa 2015 game plan, idiot setups around set pieces.. and don't even get me stated about what he's doing to the future of our squad. While we can argue we've underperformed given the current talent in the squad in a couple of years I fear we'll be looking back at this shit show as the good old days.
