The reply to my email was worse than I could have made up. Basically let’s give the newbies access to history (that’s not how history works) and ‘well at least we are robbing the fans instead of businesses’. Also…it’s no ‘unique’ now ffs!

As well as a load of ChatGPT filler.

Thank you for your email and for your support. It sounds like you’ve contributed a lot to the club over the years which we do appreciate.

This unique opportunity was originally made available to members in 2014 to purchase onto the Honour Board which is located in the Geof Motley Race for a minimum of 10 years. Based on this, all the names on the honour boardare up for renewal.

We understand the importance of these names and what they mean to our members and their family hence why we have made a concerted effort to give those members who purchased in 2014 first preference to renew.

As a club we have now grown our supporter base exponentially from where we were as a club in 2014. We have now over 58,000 members and counting for 2025, this project is allowing these new members to join in this historic opportunity to etch their name on the board.

The other thing to mention is that the membership department has fought to keep this honour board in place rather than making it a Commercial asset that would be a pure money maker for the club. You could imagine the amount of revenue that could be generated by putting logos or advertising is this location.

I appreciate your feedback regarding this project and I have passed it onto to the manager who has taken on the project.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks

Well I rang the club today about the honour board because, as others on here have said, the approach to this renewal thing has been shit. The guy who took my call advised they have had a lot of feedback (not surprised). I explained that being given one week to come up with $450 is not helpful, aside from getting the email out of the blue, etc etc. One of the 3 names is my late father in law, a long time magpies man who passed about 20 years ago.

Whilst I can afford the $450, it was the principle of the thing and why I rang, planning to confirm I would not be renewing. I gave some general feedback about not being member or premiership focused and while we are still members, we have wound back a lot of spend over the past decade.

The guy put me on hold and came back to advise that they would retain my FIL's name as a complimentary gesture and the other 2 would be held for a short period of time in the event I wanted to go ahead. It sounds like this opportunity will go out to members next week.

Anyhoo, whilst the whole thing, and other experiences are being poorly handled, I was happy to accept the offer to keep the FIL on there. As Mr PK said, "that's nice I suppose".

They really should keep names of any members who are now deceased. The names are meant to be there as a tribute to the supporters who initially paid for the privilege. If some now decide that they don't want to pay to have their name kept, then I guess that's up to them, but for anyone who has since passed on surely they should be kept indefinitely for no additional payment. I'm very pleased that they have made that offer for your FIL's name and hopefully they'll decide to make that for everyone in that situation.

Hello Kat.

Your experience on this has been identical to mine.

If you don’t ask you don’t get.

My late father’s name will be maintained FOC I’ve been told.

There’s water yet to flow under the bridge. The club has thought this up so haphazardly, is handling it so transactionally a la Trump, has received a Cyclone Alfred supply of feedback, that the subject deserves a thread of its own.

One thing I am glad of, though, was the opportunity to point out with due sting that since the Honour Board in the Mots Race was first put up in 2014, eleven seasons, PAFC have delivered to us zero GF appearances and thus zero flags. We deserve their humility, not their manipulation as playthings in some sort of grift exercise.

PS: My late father’s middle name (is) Alfred.

Hi all, creating this thread from existing posts to discuss the issue of renewing member names in the Geof Motley race, your experiences and possible solutions.

Absolutely deplorable. But not the least bit surprised.

You know, every now and then we get a suspiciously-timed new signup or an eternal optimist express “gee gawrsh!!” incredulity about how negative we are as a rule.

Welp, can you blame us?

How long until this administration send the Motley family an invoice for renewing the naming rights?

This is amateur hour. Do they tell you this time how many years the $450 buys you PK?

The location is in fact out of sight!

What is in plain sight still seems to be the logo of a ‘co-major partner’ who has stopped paying us as of last August.

Has The David, our esteemed money-making small-business-minded chairman, approved all of this grossly unprofessional BS?

I'm sure most people that had their name's on the wall attended games and poured money into the club during the 08-12 era too. Short memories.

They’re probably going to turn this one into an upcycled ping pong table.

Yikes!

It's $150 each name for 10 years

Ha. My parents and I have our names up there. Completely forgot it existed and can't even remember how it came about.

I shall await my invoice.

Got the email last week with renewal due by March 9, although they've given me some grace time next week if I change my mind about renewing (which I won't).

Aside from memberships the club is not getting another cent from me until there's a fundamental values shift.

Totally unimpressed by the blane shifting to a 'new project team' and backpedalling due to 'lot's of feedback'.

Forgot to mention I first tried calling 8447 4044 and got an out of service message before calling the Store to ask to be transferred to member services 🤪
