Yeah the bloke that plays for the Bushrangers is obviously by far the best.

I love statements like these, as if it matters which state each player's from. In reality it means sweet FA. Is Wade good enough to play as a bat? Of course he can, except if you ask Bradesmaen, but he hates him for no apparent reason.

The only reason I can think of for not considering Wade as a specialist bat is that they want him to improve his keeping.

It is probably smart in the longer term. Haddin has a limited shelf life. If Wade comes into the side as a bat, all his focus will shift to his batting since that is what is keeping him in the team. If he is viewed as the long term keeper replacement, it's best for him to be in the Shield honing his skills.

Nevill should be the long term keeper IMO. Or Whiteman, who's tidy with the gloves and good with the willow

Yeah well his effort in the first dig was terrible, got his pants pulled down that's for sure, it's a bit harder when batting to three slips and a gully. He didn't look great in the second dig, when batting couldn't get any easier at Test level, got dropped and looked a bit scratchy even though he got some runs.

I'd give him at least another test, he deserves that but if I were Alex Doolan I wouldn't book any holidays for Christmas.

Unfortunately Doolan hasn't made any runs in the last 2 weeks either. I just wonder whether they will take the gamble on Silk instead. He is the one for mine long-term.

Silk is next summer against India at the very earliest.

Earliest, that would be the latest. I am happy to be safe and let Rogers open until the end of the Ashes, but then we move Silk in.

I like how Bailey sat under the lid in the closing overs with that evil grin on his face while Anderson was getting narked. I think he has far more potential to be a pest there than Cowan or Smith would ever have.

Though Smith is a damn good catcher, looked very sharp in slips.

Long term is crap.

Test cricket is about the here and now.

Not building up to something in the future.

ODI cricket has that element where you build a squad for the next world cup.

Test cricket doesn't. You pick your best X1 every time. Whether they are 38 or 19.

If Silk is the right person long term, then when he warrants selection pick him.

I wouldn't be picking anyone for this series because they might be the answer in 2 years time.

It is why I'd consider Marcus North - rare vein of form and handy with the ball. In no way is he the answer long term, but he's in the mix for our best X1 at the moment.

Don't want to go back to North and to be honest he is playing as an opener. I just don't see much point in doing that.

lol come on, wade is no where near the top 6 batsman in the country wtf? Some of the comments are just laughable. He doesn't even get past the 30's average in state cricket...

You guys are on crack and don't actually play cricket clearly lol.

Also love how all the e-experts come out on the forums, clearly the coach and selectors know who the best batsmen are, they train with them every day ffs. There is a reason Wade is not pushing for a spot and it's simple, he's not top 6 material.

You realise Wade has a higher FC average then George Bailey?

Our biggest issue is still the no6 not the opener. Don't see us going back to North.

Our biggest issue is 1-3 & 5-7

Who cares if we "go back to North".

I'm not picking a team for the next 12 months, or even the rest of the series. I'm picking a team to beat the Poms in the next test. All I care about is winning the Ashes back.

If North is in the best 6 batsmen in the country right now - then he should be picked. His bowling will be handy at Adelaide and Watson isn't exactly dominating is he?

The selectors won't do it - but I honestly couldn't give a stuff about "the future" - that is what Shield cricket and the academy is for. Test cricket is about winning the next test you play. Period.

Watson is important, especially with Johnson in our side, he is our backup quick if need be. Our openers are fine, Rogers has had one bad test, lets not hang him for that. Warner scored a ton in the last test. Our openers are the least of our worries. Our no6 is an issue, I'll give Bailey till the end of the Perth test though.

At the WACA I'd agree with Watson. ANd I've stated that Watson should open the bowling in Adelaide (because I assume he'll be picked).

But in Adelaide on what will probably be a low and slow drop in pitch, North's spin would be more valuable than Watson's trundles. If Johnson blows up - we still have 4 other bowlers who can send down lengthy spells.

up an down pitch come day 4 an 5 Watson could be a handy tool.
bailey looked a lot like quiney, out of his depth... i'll keep bring his name up cam bear white. soild one day player if bailey gets picked on the back of one day form cam on state cricket level alone should get a look in

And North is streets ahead of White.

Sorry know it all, what's the point of having a forum if we are all just going to agree with everything that the coach and selectors do? By the way, Wade has a better FC average then Bailey who is in the side as well as Doolan and Marsh (who seem to be the next in line).

He averaged 55 in Shield last year and hit two test 100's, he's averaging 46 this year.

Your comments seem pretty laughable to me.

Who would your choice be if Bailey fails by the way?
