Netflix's problem is all the media companies are getting in on streaming (Apple TV+, CBS All Access, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Peacock, etc). They truly will have to rely on their original content as rights expire and a bunch of competitors do the same thing. That 2013 period where it was just them and they were new and cool is done.

It will end up being just like FTA
You will need to subscribe to 3 or 4 of them to get the content you want but instead of being free with adds to pay for it, it has a subscription fee and no adds ...for now (Foxtel was originally no adds too)
So long term it might just be exactly like FTA with adds but not free

These streaming services greed will see their demise. We stopped pirating because Netflix was so convenient, now you already need 3 or 4 services to get your content and more are coming. Everyone will go back to torrents and its their own fault

I thought this was an interesting article about the future of the restaurant industry in Melbourne.

I read that,

Its a tough gig for high end dining but there is a market for it
Its the theatre restaurant for rich people

I personally dont like to pay top dollar to have someone ponce about with my food,I would prefer a nanna cooked it than a sleeve tattooed artiste but there should be plenty that would

Still no excuse that chefs are artists not accountants
They didnt set up multi franchised, multi million dollar businesses without employing accountants

..........spewing I didnt find his pie shop when I was down there I forgot the address and wasn't that far away by memory and guessing.

Agree, there is no excuse for what happened. I'm still baffled how such a large organisation could make a 'mistake' like that.

As someone already said in this thread, the whole industry is in trouble and I agree. It's not just the restaurant business either. It's pretty difficult to run any smallish business these days (I'm not talking about BHP etc.). And before anyone starts saying, oh boo hoo for business people what about wage earners, I totally agree, wages are too low. So we have low wages such that many people can barely pay their bills (some of these people work in hospitality of course) let alone afford fancy restaurant meals, and then we have people running businesses (like restaurants) who can barely make a profit. Something seriously wrong with our economy.

Old people got lucky with property prices exploding and hold all the wealth.

Young people are either paying them exhorbitant rents, scratching around to try and save a deposit on overpriced housing of their own, or are completely maxed meeting mortgages on their overpriced house.

Since old people don't spend money s**t ain't going to change any time soon.

Private health is going to crash and burn hardcore.

All the old people will be claiming for stuff because they are sick and old.

All the fit and healthy young people who would usually subsidise this as they don't claim are giving up / not bothering with private health because what use is private health if you can't afford housing.

Government policy has lot to do with it. Especially in their selling-out to the multi-nationals & corporations At the working-classes & younger generations expenses....They've effectively shifted the entirety of the tax-burden onto working people now....We're all economic serfs to the establishment.

Combine that with the fact that no one is earning any real interest other than the financial sector, through exorbitant credit-card rates. Subsequently, the middle-class is left with no other option than to make a quid through rentals.....Thus hammering the working class & up & coming youngsters doubly so.

This has been done intentionlly.

Cancelling my private health Monday. Been paying $85 a month for 8 years and never made a claim. Tried to claim physio for the first time ever and they gave me 35% of the cost. Absolute racket

I've claimed a few things on mine over the yeas but I sear every few months now you get letter from them announcing either yet another fee raise or another claim exclusion. Have quite often thought about just ditching it.

Yeah, same. I've had private health cover for near 20 years. In that time I've had 3 private hospital "procedures" and bought some spectacles. I haven't done the math, but I reckon the comparison between paying full costs myself versus all those premiums would be a close run thing.

Id be thousands ahead had I never got insurance v paying what i needed.

Every year it goes up, why not reward those of us who never claim and dont smoke. Those people are the drain ffs

or properly fund medicare
We all pay 2.5% a year dont we ? I think the funding is there. Its the waste

Like everything needs a GP to refer you. Xrays, elective procedures etc. This just clogs the system. Need medical certificates at work, waste of time. Clogs the system, wasted $. Stop this and we can better use the money in the system already...

part of the money goes towards subsidising private health insurance

Where health insurance comes into its own is when you have some serious s**t go down. If you don't think that's ever going to happen to you then go ahead and drop it. You'll still get looked after but you'll probably be sharing a room with half a dozen annoying campaigners the whole time.

Nothing that some drawn curtains & ear-plugs can't fix.....and for 1,000's of dollars less....Still won't stop the campaigners kids peeping through & under your curtains though.

The flip side is they'll be paying less presumably in rights to those shows.

My brother had a serious accident so the old man shouted him health insurance for a few years, he was in ICU for months and still flying around the country seeing specialists. Happened eight years ago and only returned to a job last year.

It made his time in hospital in the city much more bearable but really wasn't any difference when he was cleared to return to the local hospital.

This. Although I can see the logic of choice it has become a racket. The specialists have used the rebates to drive up prices. Consequently the insurance costs drive up and locks people out.
Essentially private allows you to queue jump but by linking in with rebates and out patient procedures it is bubbled.
Where Medicare really needs a look in is funding for specialist services not just GPs which are mostly one off and initial referals. Specialists are for the real stuff
