George Cole dies

I was surprised nobody had made a thread about George Cole, who died on August 5 aged 90.
He has put his last drink on the slate, made his last call on the dog and bone and spent his last pony. He has said goodbye to his china plates and will George Best in peace.

Many people may not know that Cole and his Minder co-star Dennis Waterman first appeared together in a 1971 English horror film called Fright.

Does anybody know how the term "her indoors" came to be linked to the word "wife"? Apparently it is part of the rhyming slang. I understand "dog and bone" being "phone", "la dee dah" being a "cigar", and many others, but I can't see the link between "her indoors" and "wife".
