Very happy with this - a smart addition to the playing list, and a very good piece of business to bring him in without compromising our draft hand.

Tough. Durable. Consistent. Hard working. Can play a variety of roles. Willing to sacrifice for the team. Exactly what our midfield needs.

Cerra will get the headlines but this is just as good a signing.

Well done to the club and to Nick Austin, and welcome to the club, George.

How did they get Carlton merch over to him so quickly ??

What are you talking about?

The club always mails me membership merch super quickly....

:p

They must send it in advance, and I can't help wondering how that conversation goes.

"Yeah, George, lots to play out here obviously, but... umm... what size polo?"

I vaguely remember a signing in recent years (PSD/rookie/MSD) who went down to the local Rebel store and picked up a Carlton top off the rack...

Sydney actually waited a day to not match in order to give us more time to get Hewett all the merch... Pretty sure...

Very happy with this pickup. Welcome to the Blues George!
After watching the highlights clip on the Blues site, I'm even more excited to see him run out for us. From what I'd read about him here, most described him as a solid, consistent defensive-midfielder. However, the clips show he has great composure with the pill when under pressure - he has that ability to change direction/hold onto the ball a split second longer to make a better decision, strength to shrug & stand up in tackles as well as looks to have good vision and ability to hit up targets by foot.

When I have watched Hewett play I have always been attracted to his inside work especially with tackling and pressure. But what I didn't realise and I have no become aware of is how clean he is by foot - especially inside 50. Defensive midfielder for sure but can still do damage offensively and we got him for nothing.

If I'm being honest, I don't know much about him at all but the highlights clip from the club shows he is hard at it, doesn't give up and is a good user of the ball. And it looks like he knows how to stick a tackle. Definitely lots to like

Watched his interview on website -- think the guy is all about action little on words -- ..

Amazing quote at a Sydney B&F - not quite "it's good to play good. It's bad to play bad", but pretty close.

Seems a good fella and a great role model who can actually play as well as go hard.

Swans are all class

Carlton is now the leading team with names paying homage to our Royal Family (I think). Edward, Charles, Harry and now George.
Who's missing?

Draft Henry Walsh

Is Hewett the replacement for E Curnow (while he plays out his afl career for one more season)?

or a bigger body to assist Cripps?

or both?
Never will understand the need for players to be player x replacement. Seeing it with 'we need a Levi replacement' a lot too.

Why do we need to 'replace' players, implying someone to come jn and do what they did, when those particular players were part of a spectacularly bad era of carlton footy. With all respect to previous warriors let's just let Hewett be the Hewett of the team and move forwards.

Just dropping by to say you've picked up a ripper player in George.

Very composed with the ball, clean disposal by hand and by foot. He's sort of been pigeon holed as a defensive player, purely because he's so good defensively, but he has poise in attack as well. Great evasiveness and clean in close.

To me, he's the definition of a 'moneyball' acquisition.

Kicked a clutch goal in the 4th qtr of the 2016 GF in his first year (10min in to the clip).

He was also good in our elimination final against GWS, with Kennedy & Mills out, particularly in the 4th qtr.

2.48.30
2.53.00 - 2.54.00 *has a couple of clean disposals there
2.55.15 *another nice touch

As a swans supporter I'm very sad that there is a thread of this name. Well done guys, you will love George.
It may also take you half the season to work out which is his preferred foot - he is excellent off both.
In sure he will get a great response next time you play at the SCG as he has always been a favourite.
