Opinion George Horlin-Smith - where is he at?

At the end of the day, if you do have a player hitting their mid twenties, doing enough in the VFL to deserve a game but just not able to crack a star-studded midfield, you'd let him walk to a willing suitor with no hard feelings.
Yes but only with a suitable trade he's 23 and has 2 more years of a contract. Geelong has lacked depth across the ground for a few years now. We don't want to drop it all out just as it's all come together.

The Suns have picks 40 and 58 in this draft and might not even use them. They will potentially have 7 or 8 picks before that as it is.

As we've seen - MF depth is critical.

We are not in a list squeeze. He is contracted. He knows the gameplan. He plays 25 odd touches a week in the VFL.

IMO he will get games once Bartel moves on and with no knowledge of the situation its entirely possible those words were spoken by Hocking when GHS re-signed.
He has competition from Lang, Menegola, Scooter, Parsons et al - but he's also worked as hard as anyone to get his deficiencies bettered - endurance, hand speed etc.

He will never be Mots so let it go - but as long as he's still going at the 29th min of the last 1/4 im fine with that.

He stays and gets games in 2017.

he has leadership qualities which is good to have even in the VFL

at worst he is just a good leader in the vfl who provides depth

at best he improves his game a bit and is a solid player in a year or 2

J Selwood isnt getting any younger and might be forced to play forward a lot more, 1-2 injuries and GHS is in the team as an inside mid

That sums it up perfectly. He and the club might already know what's planned for him. And there will be a lot of veterans departing in the next year or two. If there was any frustration at all about not getting games he sure doesn't show it. Exemplary on and off the field and our most consistent (and best) VFL performer by a mile.

Even better, it seems like he's patient as well. See what occurs in 2017.

Congratulations to GHS. Good to see him play some good, consistent football, albeit in the VFL as I still want him in the seniors where possible in the future.

Hopefully it gives him a bit of confidence to push on.

Sad? It's called opinion and support. Everyone has favourites - some mainstream, some out of left field.

There's nothing sad about that. It's the nature of football.

People will be on the ghs bandwagon until he is delisted. The same as those who were on the mitch brown, simon hogan and george burbury bandwagon (yes even he had a bandwagon). Invested too much in the belief he can be a player and refuse to admit they were wrong. A bit sad really.
I was on all 3 of those, happy to admit it.
Burbury showed a lot in a preseason some years ago, and until he got his jaw smashed, v Pies in a preseason game- from which I don't think he fully recovered, he was very promising.
Brown was another victim of recurrent early injuries that thwarted his progress with us. Very skilled.
Hogan- similar to GHS but we had a surplus of mids at that stage- that was not the case in the future for GHS. Only issue now is the likes of Menegola, SS, Parsons emerging, that compete with him.

Brown and GHS have enough talent to make it the other 2 were battlers, there is a difference.

No different to Daniel Menzel, Lincoln McCarthy, Josh Cowan, Nathan Vardy, Hamish McIntosh, Dawson Simpson, and Mitch Clark. Everyone loves to be an expert. Afterwards.

Crows will probably lose Scott Thompson next year so GHS would add depth to them, clean swap for Henderson it is.

have to fit Thurlow back in to the starting 22, going to be a battle for spots. Which is a good thing.

Poor old Horlo can't do much more to try get a game. We've put Menegola and scooter ahead of him instantly when he probably deserved the chance. Stuff the contract he may aswell walk out the door. It'll be sad to see him go but I honestly want nothing more than him to play AFL. Any other club he'd be a 100 game player by now. He's been to loyal for to long. Time to look after himself for a change.

My wife's cousin is one of his best mates from school and was discussing with him a few months back at a family gig if he was getting frustrated, said he was still really happy at the Cats and loved the club. Didn't hint that he wanted to leave at all. But that's nearly an entire season ago now so could have changed.

See him a bit like Vardy, in Geelong's interest to keep him, but if an offer comes in and they are keen to go, we will take what we are offered and do right thing by player.

Compo will be poor, but then we didn't pay much for Zac Smith did we?
