Gerald Healy is the most arrogant, conceited ****er involved in the AFL. The smirk on his smug face...the way he talks...id love to see him in person and tell him how i really feel.

Thinks he is one of the greatest players ever to play the game - nothing but an arrogant ****er.

Re: Re: Gerard Healy you tosser

Macca, I prefer him to Caro, and "Iron Mike" to Robert Walls any day. Talking Footy has taken a backward step with the inclusion of those two this year.

Maybe Bruce did replace Gerard, and I have an opinion, too, on who I prefer there.

Gerard Healy also nominated Collingwood as the smokey to knock off Essendon this year. Now without detracting from Collingwoods obvious improvement, it is a really big call to say that a team can come from a genuine 15th to 1st in a single season.

It is surprising that someone who obviously had plenty of football abililty and is clearly an intelligent and articulate person can know so little about the game. Even his special comments are more geared around how matchups are working rather than at any greater strategic level.

I can't remember the quote, but "smokey" to me means a rough chance, not a high probability. He wouldn't have been on his own there, though I can't recall any other journo making such a prediction, only Pies supporters. And I wouldn't say that the Pies were a genuine 15th last year. Sure, they finished 15th, but started like a house on fire before their youngsters ran out of puff. I guess it depends on what you mean by genuine.

1977 sprang to mind when you mentioned from 15th to first, although it was only a 12-team comp then, for those of us old enough to remember. A new coach (Hafey?) breathed new life into a fairly good side that had underperformed, judging by the run of GFs and other finals appearances following that wooden spoon.

Just for a touch of luck they in fact would have climbed from wooden spoon to premiers.

You are kidding when you suggest that this clearly intelligent, articulate Brownlow medallist knows little about the game, aren't you? Sure, he's no Drew Morphett, but I bet he has a better knowledge of the game.

It was around early June (the weekend that St. Kilda played Freo, whenever that was). I think Hawthorn, Carlton and Port Adelaide were in a bit of a trough and whoever was with Healy in the box that time was bemoaning the apparent lack of challengers to Essendon. Healy mentioned Collingwood and was quite genuine in his appraisal of their chances. His belief was that they were the most likely challengers (to Essendon) for the Premiership. The comment grated because there was still half a season to go and a lot of things could happen before we got to the Grand Final.

In recent years, both Brisbane and Melbourne have finished bottom before rocketing straight back up to the top. The reason they finished bottom was not due to poor lists but other factors such as injury, apathy and coaching traumas. I don't regard them as genuine bottom sides.

Collinwood in recent years have certainly filled this bill. Last year there list was a combination of some serviceable hacks and some promising kids, along with only a small handful of genuine stars. Their list meant that they were a genuine bottom side. They have since pruned a lot of the ordinary players and also brought the kids on.

Granted Healy is not in the same league as Morphett or (God Help Us) Sandy Roberts. With his credentials, he should be a lot better. Both Morphett and Roberts are professional TV Sports commentators. They are not really there for expert commentary.

Next time Healy is on, listen to what he has to say. Much of it seems inane. He is quite able to point out a match up that is not working but doesn't seem to grasp why teams are winning or losing at a strategic level.

The prince of special commentators is Malcolm Blight. He does appear to understand the game at all levels and always makes sense.

I rate them as a genuine bottom side last year because they genuinly finished 15, just as hawthorn are a genuine top 4 side at the moment because....... yes, they are 4th

I can't stand Gerrard Healy either...

In fact I hate him with a passion.
During the pre- merger days he was pushing for the Dees to merge with the Hawks so much, it really riled me....not only that...he is forever on about outing Joe Gutnick....I am sure he hates the MFC and I am sure the feeling is quite mutual by many Melbourne supporters!!

Anyway, to top it off, he always slags off at rugby league and union too...at every opportunity and never says anything positive about other footy codes!!

I just don't like him because he played against Collingwood. But, we couldn't have anyone bag other footy codes could we:rolleyes: What is he thinking? How dare he bag another footy code?
