Terry Wallace could do a whole lot worse than convincing the Richmond board to approach Nathan Buckley for an assistant coaching role at Tigerland starting in 2008. As a player, Buckley's days are very numbered, if not already at an end, and he seems to have all of the attributes required to be a very useful person in the coaches box and around the club.

Collingwood would be loathe to see him go (which would make it all the more sweet to nab him:D) and I believe they see him as a future coach of their club. They'd be mad not to. I also question whether Buckley himself would benefit from simply progressing into the Collingwood coaches box in 2008 as an offsider to Malthouse, and might need to have this spelt out to him by some convincing people from Punt Road.

For us, its win-win. A great footy brain to add to the club's football department, and one very fresh from the game untainted by the ideas already present at Tigerland. It would also be a clever gesture to that baying mob who are not overly-satisfied by the current coaching structure - it would throw them something of a bone, without throwing the baby out with the bath water (amongst other "throwing" cliches!). And if somehow Plough doesn't cut the mustard by the end of his contract in 2009, Bucks would have had a two year apprenticeship to maybe step into the head coaching role.

I reckon Bucks would be ideal. He's a born winner with an incredibly strong competitive streak. He will leave the game without a Premiership as a player through no fault of his own, but will be dead set on achieving this in his next role in football.

I thought Figjam is on a playing list and who is to say he will play 2008? He would want to go out with playing some games. Also I do not want Nathan being an assistant coach at Richmond :thumbsu:

Is this some sort of personal grudge?

Thankfully for Lions fans they did not allow an "I don't like" approach to Leigh Matthews prior to him being brought in as senior coach. Though they had every right to despise him for the occasional prick he was as a footballer.

Why would you not want somebody that would do a ****ing fantastic job to join our assistant coaching ranks?
I think he is a knob as well but I want what is best for the RFC

its a great idea would definetly upset the ferals across the road, but isnt that the role that David King is playing
Um, you have more then 1 assistant coach you know;)

That is the nickname he gave himself :thumbsu:

I don't care what grudges you guys have, but Nathan Buckley would make a very good assistant coach. For the better part of this year he has been used as an assistant at Collingwood. If Hird, Voss and Buckley all go onto coach I believe Buckley will be far and away the most successful

I prefer James Hird as he would inspire a team. I like James Hird over Nathan because he has produced time and time again. He is also a premiership captain :thumbsu:

I'm under the impression Hird doesn't want to coach. Either way theres just some about the way you see him speaking to his players at half time in the rooms and stuff that makes me know he would be a great coach

Maybe twelve months out of the game he could be persauded to be an assistant coach. He is the best player that Essendon has produced in 25 years that I have followed VFL/AFL football. A legend plain and simply :)

Bump.

I said it 12 months ago, and am convinced it's the right way to go now more than ever.

I will reiterate it - get Nathan Buckley. Whatever it takes.

Hmmmmm. Let's work it out. Coaching richmond or having a very rewarding and rapidly expanding media career with no stress or grey hair. Pretty simple decision really.

I love buckley as a commentator. Measured, unbiased, sensible, logical, great to listen to.:thumbsu:

Love him at Tigerland.

yet again The Ghost speaketh the truth... I cringe when I hear the words come out of my mouth but sign him before he returns to the skunks as an assistant in line to take over from Malthouse .... i will now go and wash my mouth out with soap

I don't recall the Magpie Scum winning anything during his career.

He walked out on Brisbane where he could have won 3 flags you idiot

We don't need another preening coach telling us how good he is and we certainly don't need anyone from the filth that is Collingwood

Voss would make me spew if he was made Tiger coach. Respect his deeds as a footballer, but no respect for the man.

Knob in the Robert Walls mold.
