Forget Craig, Laidley...etc..... Get Kirk to the club. I reckon he would be exactly what we need as an assistant. Especially to the young players.

Hey nut, I've been thinking recently about who we could target as a midfield assistant coach to bring in to the club. With the way game plans and midfield setups work these days, and the rate at which they change, I was trying to think of someone fresh out of the game, who would be informed and innovative.

I think you have possibly hit the nail on the head here. On top of all that, he would surely help develop the leadership attributes of our younger guys. He also has that hard edge, something we obviously need to nurture in our young list.

Great suggestion :thumbsu:

V. Good call Nut !, question is would he be prepared to leave Swans?? Has anyone heard of what he might do when he returns from O.Seas?? Does he have coaching aspirations or is that one of the reasons he's gone away to consider those types of things. future options etc

Great call nut. I know we haven't seen eye to eye on the trading issue recently but this is a great idea. Not only would it help with our tackling but hopefully also with instilling a great culture into the club like Sydney have.

Absolutely. Don't forget Craig and Laidley though. Get Kirk and one of the others. Easier said than done I know but I would like to see a few senior heads on the panel, as well as a few people from outside Dimma's realm.

There was an article a few weeks ago where he stated that if he was to go for an assisants coach role, it would not be at the swans but at a different club

You forgot the part where you say, "if he were to be anywhere other than Sydney, I'd prefer he be at the Tigers"

My bad i missed where nut said forget Craig. Hardwick head coach with Craig his right hand man. With Kirk in the middle. Leppa in the back. Maybe look at changing the forward and ruck coaches? Not sure.

great call. the gooses we have as assitants now have not had an impact at all.

So if you believe our our assistants have had no impact at all, who gets the credit for the improvement of Vickery, Nahas, Griffiths and Rance. The form of first year players Batchelor and Conca. Foleys return. Martin, King and Grimes earlier in the year. The boot studder?
Is it Leppa or Cambo's fault we were missing 5 defenders on Sunday - Moore, Astbury, Newman, Grimes and Batchelor?
Good call on getting Brett Kirk but if it's specificially just tackling, Libba is just over the West Gate!

That is strarting to sound like a formidable panel. Now we just need to get rid of Lade and we'll be golden. I honestly think we would be better off with no ruck coach than Brendon Lade. He has achieved amazing things in reversing players development and confusing them.

Great call - Kirk would be a massive upgrade on Campbell and he would instill leadership and discipline. Our midfield should have done better this year, and you know Kirk won't have any "favorites" - head over the ball or your playing at Coburg !

Leppa has done VERY well with the available players. Rance, Grimes and Bachelor have been solid.

the assistants have prescribed roles to study and get players thinking and playing better. forget the injuries, everyone has them, but what has thier impact been? backline? ffs? what is our kick out plans? why do we give the ball up so easily? why do we give it to guys who cannot kick (prescribed kickers)? I could go on and on. We have a set of ass coaches who have not improved our game plan or skill dept and thinking. I could go on and on. we need to have some quality people in there who can teach and get the message across in game improvement, that is a key indicator.....

One of my all time faviourite players would love him at the club, Still think Craig should be number one on our list. On a side note Leppa has done a fantastic job with our you defenders.

As has been said, Kirky has said he wouldn't take up an assistant coaching gig at the Swans. Same environment he has been around for the last decade and a bit so he would want a different spot to develop his coaching ability and scope for the game in terms of different game plans and strategies and what not.

Would be a great addition to any coaching staff. Has coach written all over him so a good suggestion from the OP.

But I would put a bit of money on him ending up back at the Swans at some stage if he were to take up a role at another club in the near future.

Not only is Kirk a perfect fit for us ... we are a perfect fit for him.

We are young side that he can have a huge influence over. Yep being a Richmond assistant is sometimes a death sentence and it would be risky for him but someone like him would see it as a challenge to change the culture at our club. He would be walking in to club that is about to move up the ladder.

We should be able to keep all our assistants we have now, this is what the FTF should be used for... GET KIRK..lol...
I've heard great things about Leppa and Lade... Campbell was highly regarded at the bulldogs when they improved significantly.

Lets keep stability for Dimmas contract and judge this time next season. Adding Kirk might just be the spark he needs.

On getting an ex coach to oversee/mentor...etc.... I hold the same view as Leigh Mathews.... if aster 2-3 years a coach needs a mentor then you need a new coach.

We are on the same page on the trading issue.....we are just putting up different players.

love the idea. if he can bring even half of the sydney culture to the tigers we will make a HUGE improvement

seriously how can we get this to happen???

i thought about this bloke as he finished his career in syd. tbh the vaccuum at punt rd is experience...our blokes are learning on the run. I could argue that our assistants have been in pretty good environments in leppa and Lade yet we are still lacking. Neil Craig is the answer

Would love to get Kirk to Tigerland but I don't see how Campbell is to blame for our midfield woes. Apart from the non-existent service from our rucks, we have nowhere near enough quality players to run through the midfield. Campbell can't be blamed for those problems.
