Get on the Gill Train!!!! :D

I dont think we can pin our hopes on a 24 year old bloke who couldnt make it at two AFL clubs previously to get us across the line on Sunday. Having never seen him play (there is not much SANFL in London) I am hoping like crazy he is a better option up forward than Perrie and McGregor. We will see.

Given that Essendon are playing an extra tall this week, I'd like to see Perrie retained in the 22 so that we have the flexibility to put Bock and McGregor in defence if necessary. Our ability to win the ball in the midfield and our ability to hold Lucas and Lloyd will determine the outcome of this game. We went in a tall short against St Kilda (which is always risky at the Dome) and paid the price. It would be stupid to do it again.

I fail to see how any of Douglas, Doughty or Shirley deserve their spot in the 22 ahead of Campbell. People get excited about Douglas having a break out year in 2008 - I hope so because his last two performances have been pretty average and it certainly wont be happening in 2007. Doughty and Shirley have been round for donkeys, neither are match winners and have been down on form. Campbell has more upside and because of his age and experience, I am hoping will be able to slot straight in better than a junior player would i.e. Pfeiffer / Douglas.

He better not score 5 goals or more. :D

I get the feeling that there will only be one change this week!

IN: Gill
OUT: Douglas :(

I wouldn't be surprised to see Welsh drop out, probably with an injury.

With JJ coming back for them I think their defence is a tad too tall for us and although we like to run and play small at the TD, this is the chance to change things.

I'm in a good mood now, mainly because I got my birthday presents today (turned 19 :D). I got FOUR different Crows shirts (each of them look AWESOME) and two Sherrin footballs - one for kicking and one that my dad is leaving with the club next week for all the boys to sign. :D

Plus I got an Xbox 360 hard drive, some cash and other thingamajigs. X)

ANYWAY, since I'm in this good mood....in fairness to Craig the simple fact is nearly all of our young guys have had injury problems throughout the year and have not been able to string some weeks together in the SANFL. I mean....Sellar, Gill, Campbell, Meesen, Maric, Vince, Pfeiffer, MacKay etc etc, they have all been injured....and then Maric came back, got into some good form in the SANFL and bam, he gets a gig. Now Gill has played a number of weeks and has been on the emergency list several times and now gets his debut. Campbell has put some good weeks together and is in line for selection. Maybe it's just the alcohol/happiness with my presents talking....but maybe Craigy is willing to give our untried guys a go when they're -fit- and -playing good footy in the SANFL-.

If Pfeiffer and Meesen play good games again they'll be right in the mix for the Showdown I think (they're both a little behind Campbell and Gill in terms of how much footy they've played since returning from injury/illness aren't they?) Anyway I'll probably read all this tomorrow and think "wtf" but meh...
What are you? 3?

My feeling is that Bryce Campbell will also debut as well as Nick Gill.

He's certainly earned a shot at it and our mid-field has been lacking somewhat in the hardness area.

Out of the 25 IMO - Jericho, Douglas and Doughty.

We can only hope that Mattner does play as a wingman for a change.

what about the injury concerns for Massie and Welsh ? I thought that was something to keep an eye on ?

Dud? I dont know

Personally I hope he becomes another option in the forward lines and when not playing another option to keep pressure on the forwards to perform. Maybe getting this game may indicate to him he is good enough and if and when he goes back to the SANFL he lifts his workrate

Come On Gilly!!!!! great bloke heart of gold... There may be a few people eating their words after today

Hope he does well. This guy can be anything or nothing, and all in the same quarter.

If he's switched on, watch out Bombers. Has great endurance too so he'll still be going strong in the last quarter

Hmm, clean up the kicking and I'm right on the train. Very good first quarter, refreshing change to have a forward looking dangerous.

Can I jump aboard?

Sensational first half. Has it all except his kicking (which has always been his downfall).

Our new X-factor.:thumbsu:

If he can clean up the kicking he will be a star:)
That'll always be his problem I'm afraid - I'm sure pretty much everyone who had seen him play before expected him to miss that first goal. Tops grab though!
I'm loving his game thus far! If Gill can play like this consistantly, and I see no reason why he can't, we might not be regretting letting Westhoff get away after all.

Surely its not that hard to get Gill off to one side during the off season and work him like a dog on his kicking? Given the obvious nerves and hes been playing his first match in his head for 5 years or so I think hes been super.

After all, Knights disposal was lousy in his first few games, and has steadily improved. Its the ability to find the ball in the first place that is harder to teach, and if Gill knows how to find it like he seems to, some serious forward coaching can only make him quite a dangerous forward option.

heck, and hes only 24, could still have a long career of 7-8 years with us if he can deliver the goods.
