But i was serious about me trying to talk some sense into you mate if you're in Bendigo!
I learn't the hard way dude, my situation is extremely similar to yours although the only difference was when my ex came crawling back I politely declined. She is now heart broken but mate the last 6-7 months have been the best months of my life. Still love the ex mrs of 4 years but had to use the head instead of the heart, i knew we weren't going to last and even though getting back together would have been the easy option I am now thriving!! Don't want to see a fellow BF poster heartbroken for a second time!

the funniest part was my manager was in the room and he was like 'nicky nicky NICKY *i proceded to do what i had to do* and he just left.

Then after about 20 mins (my break was 15 mins) he came up to me while i was at the bar (drinking) talking to a friend of mine and he said 'nicky do you want to come back to work now' - and i gave him this look like he was just some dude who had rudely interrupted me, i said 'err, do you mind, i'm in the middle of a conversation'

an hour later i went back and he said 'sign off and take next week off too' - i looked at that as a sacking but i've seen him since and he said i was welcome to come back - i guess i felt a bit guilty and too difficult to face him again...

What I do with them is sack them anyway and then give my lawyers a blank chequebook to make sure they get nothing. Not real smart but I don't give a shit.
