As someone who has called people by their wrong names at least twice in my lifetime, trust me it's not like we do it on purpose. One was a PT I called Brad, I swear to god I thought that is what he said when he introduced himself, turned out to be Brett.

The other one was a guy at work his name is Matt, I just decided one day I'd call him Nick. He looked like a Nick imo. :D:oops:

As for me, yeah been called Melissa instead of Michelle sometimes. Doesnt bother me in the slightest.

My mum used to pretty much go through every males name in the house when telling me/my brother/dad off until she got the right name.

Yep. I have 5 brothers and used to get the same. Often it would be some messed up Hybrid name that started as one name and morphed into 3 or 4 others all in the one go.

Also have a new temporary manager who gets my name wrong every 3rd or 4th time I speak to him. It doesnt bother me but I find other people correct him for me if they are around.

A little off topic...

Was at a house party back in high school and went up to a random hot girl that I had never met before and said: "hi Sarah". Turns out her name was actually Sarah. I just completely guessed it, and was expecting her to correct me.

She followed me around all night absolutely intrigued as to how I knew her name...
I was in with her all because I guessed her name.

Yolo.

I am getting sick of people getting my name wrong.
My name is common, not difficult to pronounce, and even when I do correct people, they still don't seem to click that my name isn't what they think it is!
For the record, my name is Dean, however I have been misidentified by the following names:
- Dan, most common, somewhat understandable
- Danny
- Daniel
- Dane
- Dwayne
And the most bizarre one i got, was Steve.
I find myself having to drown out my name so it isn't misidentified.
I've got a guy at work, who I'm only working with for a week or so, who for some reason thinks my name is Daniel.
Do i bother to correct him? Or is too late?

Anyone else have some funny stories about getting their name mispronounced/misidentified?

Same boat on every count. How shit is it?

Thread belongs to cruffy, Cruyff14 can't even get his own name right.
No, it just appears most of BF is dyslexic.

As for IRL, some people have had some issues with my name as there is an extra vowel thrown in.

I have been guilty of this I admit. Mostly, over the phone or a brief introduction because peopleeither mumble or talk like their trying to break the speed of sound. Slow down and be clear. The amount of times Often had to re ask someone close what said person said their name was only for them to also have no freaking clue.

Only time people get my name wrong is when they can't remember and rather than ask decide to have a wild stab and not be further away.

Usually only when I'm talking to a telemarketer or the help centre for my phone carrier
"I will most certainly be able to help you today sir. May I have your name please"
"Brad"
"Ok Brandon was it, what seems to be the problem today sir?"
"No it's Brad"
"....."
"...B-r-a-d"
"Sorry sir, Brad was it? What can I help you with today?"

You all know the conversation I'm talking about. I'm sure we've all had it at some stage.

My name is Dave. For some reason my wife thinks my name is Idiot.
