I find Chief's passion for denouncing the existance of a God fascinating in that he clearly does it to seek out a fabric of doubt he has. Chief I love your problem solving drive and arrogance, love it, but wish I could figure out the way you need someone to argue the point to spark your interest.

How boring would it be to discuss things with people who are only ever going to agree with you? You can't test your arguments with people who just nod along with you.

I am the same as you on this except (obviously a tad smarter) as I have realised the opposite is true. Let me know the exact angle you need some evidence and I think I can set your genius mind onto a path of peace.

I understand your passion for proving this one way or another, but haven't been able to identify the way you need to be shown you are wrong on this.

Look, God would actually have to come down and knock on my door and perform a spectacular, verified miracle.

However, a miracle is often just a phenomenon for which we have no explanation. So the problem remains - how do your prove that which, by its very definition, cannot be proven?

I mean, there's a reason why there's thousands upon thousands of lapsed Catholics in this country and yet basically nobody bothers with annotating their baptismal record. It's because it's so completely irrelevant in every practical facet of their lives that it never even occurs to anybody to bother.

Just reviewing this thread for anything I might have missed.

I'd say nobody bothers because of a few reasons:

1. They don't care or don't feel it is worth their time.

2. They do care but the process is obscure. I couldn't find any official information about it online and had to take a stab at it based on somebody else's story.

3. They are afraid of insulting their family and friends by specifically taking the time to reject the church.

4. They re afraid of general ridicule, of the type that has been levelled at me in this thread. I have developed a thick skin over the years, others aren't so lucky.
