I think the involvement of past players, especially those from the 70's, 80's and 90's, is an important step if Fitzroy are to once again regain prominence amongst the supporters of the old club.

It is a shame to see Roys now at other clubs. Ross Lyon at Carlton for crying out loud! Not only is it a show of strength and support to have your own guys on board, but also, a lot of these guys do have something they could offer the club (probably in a number of capacities).

Take B.Boyd for instance.

It's guys like Boydy that the club needs to get on its side. By that, I mean more than just the very occasional show of moral support.

I know it's a request, and there is no obligation on his part, however, he would certainly be a draw card for the Roys, if his talents were put to good use.

I don't know what the club can offer him, but perhaps he could have an involvement at some level. He was pretty much the public face of the Roys in the mid 90's. Surely it would mean something to supporters to see him back with the club (in some form of involvement). IMO, it would certainly help boost the profile of Fitzroy's current involvements.

Perhaps an involvement with the Juniors, U-19's, the Redz? I'm sure his on-field talents could be relayed to some form of coaching ability.

It'd be great.

There are a few others who I could think of, off the top of my head, who are still pretty active in the sports industry. Michael Conlan for example. What a plus it would be for the club for him to become involved with one of the Juniors sides!
