if geelong win i hope they and their club know how hollow a victory that it will be.
most of geelongs goals have come directly off a freekick or a couple kicks off one. they are being handed the goals.

What do the hawks have to do to get a holding the ball decision.

Scarlett should have given a couple away as well to buddy for holding

scarlett falling and the other push in the side free kick and the 'down the field' free. Worst decisions all season just about.

I wanted to watch a good FAIR game , how much do the umps have on the cats?
 
The downfield free kick was clearly correct

The player was still infringing against Ablett Jnr even after Ling kicked the ball. IMO the penalty was not harsh enough. Players that cyncially taking out other player like that should be reported and suspended.

Slightly incorrect - it was given as 50 metres from the Ablett incident, not downfield.

Even my girlfriend has noticed this and she only watches 1-2 games a year- Geelong are playing to the umpires and noone else. Instead of trying to win the ball they're trying to win the free. Most of the time the umpires are enabling this attitude. I can't make excuses for the poor head-high hits on Ablett etc, but otherwise this is like watching Italy in the World Cup.

Mitchell hit Ablett.

Ling kicked the ball.

Free kick should have been taken by Ling at the edge of the center circle.

It's a 50mtr penalty from the Ablett incident, not a downfield free kick.

Otherwise, anyone could belt anyone behind the ball because you can't give away 50 metres.

If it was a 50 meter penalty then Ablett would have been the player to take the kick and Mitchell would have been the player to man the mark as he was the infringing player.

Mitchell continued to hold Ablett

Free kick correctly paid downfield.

I was certainly a neutral and had a slight leaning to wanting Geelong to win.

Didn't take long for me to start cheering for Hawthorn. Just hate when the scumps are just so one sided it is not funny.

Geelong were given a free ride and still couldn't take it. Awesome discipline from Hawthorn to ride it out.

McLaren should be fired. What a ****ing disgrace. No matter what Hawthorn did, they could not get a free kick from him (barring the last 10 minutes, big ****ing whoop).

Someone else should lay him out to the media, it will be another $10,000 well spent.

I was wondering if I was being biased in my view that the umpires were tyring to keep geelong in it at times... now I don't feel so bad, becaus eI am not the only one thinking that. We still won, so thank heavens for that.

Glad to see non-biased supporters are agreeing. The downfield free against Mitchell was terrible. They also had two goals from free kicks in the first quarter. Franklin, Roughead also gave away frees that weren't there. I'm glad we won if only because the umpiring didn't affect the result, but it was dodgy and embarassing.

I have watched every minute of every Grand Final since 1983 and that was the worst Grand Final umpiring I have ever seen! a total disgrace, it improved in the second half but still competely unacceptable.

Geelong scored at least three goals from suss Umpiring.

I would like to add that this would have to be one of the worst umpired Grand Finals for quite some time. Having said that though, I can't really say I was surprised because Geelong tend to get the 50/50s even when it should go the other way.

Some of the decisions were just mind-boggling but credit the Hawks for having the discipline to win

Umpiring on the whole was quite good today, if only a little whistle happy on occasions. This was consistent throughout the game. Isn't that what the BF posters want? Consistency? You certainly got it today with the free kick interpretations.

IMO most of the decisions were warranted but on the soft side. Don't forget it is not only the players who get nervous before that one day in September.
