Well you got there eventually.

To quote my previous post:
"His great 2015 season has zero relevance as to whether he WILL be durable. As a veteran. In his 30s. This is impossible to determine, but i do hope he plays well for whoever takes him."

Can we agree to agree now?

(Something tells me I am about to be disappointed...)
You're missing the point from my original post so let's just leave it there...

What would it take to get Steel from GWS?

Well he was pick 24 in his draft year so you'd think at least that maybe 2x2nd rounders?

I like him but another one paced mid maybe isn't what we need at least not without someone leaving.

Digressing where do people think Lang is at? he's not been helped by people played out of position when in the 1's but the polish has really come off his game even at VFL level.

I think Lang will get better, but he is really a midfielder, and I don't think he is a natural forward or defender. He's probably not going to be a gamebreaker, but he will be a solid player. He's still young, so as the season goes on, he probably got a bit tired. One more pre-season should see him improve again.

I like Lang but it wouldn't over surprise me if he ends up elsewhere. Listening to the way Sam Simpson was described today.. id say he might be comparable. Lang is not overly quick so where he ends up playing is debatable.

Patience is needed for Lang, once he joins the main midfield rotations he'll be gold. It took guys like Kelly a while to get that kind of responsibility.

Wouldn't mind picking up Daniel Cox from the Recruit as a rookie.
Lots of speed and talent from what I've seen. Commitment and work ethic might be an issue but if anyone can harness and develop his talent ,we can .

Kelly came 5th in the rising star award in 2002 and was Geelong's best 1st year player ahead of SJ, Ablett and Bartel. He was a regular in his 2nd season.

Lang is a bit vanilla IMO and I question if he'll ever be good enough to be a regular in this midfield.

I can't dispute any of that, but he spent most of our early premiership years as a quite successfully as a flanker but he reached his heights when he was moved into the middle full time. Which wasn't until he was well into his mid 20s

I don't think Lang is vanilla at all, he moves really well through congestion, while he doesn't have the most penetrating kick he'd be one of the most accurate kicks at the club and he is one of the few in our team who can actually kick a goal from an I50 stoppage. I see Lang growing into a role not too dissimilar to that of Stokes from 2013 to 2014. Bartel is currently occupying that spot (or as close to it as we have)

Agree.

Think wells found one there.
Especially the way he releases the ball in traffic.
Absolutely critical these days.

Honestly, I thought Lang was one of the classier of our young mids. Clean, a decent decision maker, has a little bit of dash. I don't see any major flaws

Kelly was good early but he changed his game to become a much much better player. It worked hard on his tackling and contributing much more to games.

Similar to what Lang, Cockatoo and other young players need to do.
Bomber Thompson said recently even if you have a lot of disposals in a game. You only have the ball in your hands for a few minutes a game. What you do for the rest of the time is so important.

From HS:
Gold Coast is eyeing a large number of midfield prospects to help fill the gaps in its centre-line, including Port Adelaide game breaker Hamish Hartlett and Geelong’s George Horlin-Smith.
GC would be perfect for GHS they have players that compliment his strengths and he's obviously a leader which they need.

I'd laugh if he went there, they already have Hallahan. But it's probably our best chance to get decent compensation.

If George can get to the Suns and we can get one their second round picks. That's a win for everyone.
I know he is still getting a good wage and footy is still fun even if you're not playing seniors. But maybe if George had have not chosen to go in the draft he'd be batting for Australia. Not sure how he goes against a moving ball. But if he can last more than a handful of overs he'd be in the Australian top order.
