Tottenham, Bushrangers
Kersten, Vardy, GHS and Smedts packaged up
Freo get Cam McCarthy from GWS and Kersten and Smedts from Geelong
GWS get Vardy and GHS from Geelong and Taberner from Freo
Geelong get Tomlinson from GWS and Ibbotson from Freo (cover developing KPF and linking medium defender)
Thinking outside the box
Nothing wrong with outside the box thinking at all. GWS probably not the club to include, they'd have no use for our bit part players.

Would hope that after the faith GFC have shown to SK he takes a decent offer from us. Might not be the top of the tree, but still good for him.

As for his value, think he is worth more to us than he is to others.

And with Freo, Pav would be done or damn close to it. They currently have 0 KPF - if they get McCarthy that makes one. Think a system of SK playing as #3 KPF suits him better IMO

Not trying to get rid of SK, I'm a fan of his to be honest.
Just looking at options if said rumour came to fruition.
I think Hawk, Clark and Kersten could be a big winner come finals time.

For non-subscribers the key points are
  • Vardy turned down an offer from Essendon last year
  • Bombers still want him as a second forward with Daniher
  • Bulldogs, GWS and Brisbane have also made inquiries
  • The Cats want to re-sign him and see him as required, but Vardy is resisting signing up
GWS? Really..thats a funny alignment wants and needs.. They must seem him a Mumford replacement. Dogs as well in a way...Minson

I would trade him, but only IF we have to... GWS are a tree with plenty of fruit. They could give more away and still not worry them.

It is a Hun article so take it with a grain of salt... but I agree, if Vardy is holding off because of a lack of senior opportunities I can't see him heading to the Giants.

Interesting that he (Vardy) apparently turned down an offer from the bombers last year. Only speculation but the article has multiple clubs interested. This draft has few talls and we know clubs will pay more for talls. All that would indicate that if he did seek a trade his price could inflate.

Obviously he wants to play games and at the moment he's not. But I'd be surprised if he left the club has looked after him. He knows if he is fit and plays well he'll get games. It sounds like he wants a bit more money than the club is offering. And the club has actually said it will wait till later in the year to re sign a lot of the players who are either vets or have had a lot of injuries.

Kersten I can't see him leaving now he's waited a fair while to get a run of games. During that time the team was ok. Now he's playing every week. The team is up near the top and will play finals. I can't remember who it is but he lives with teammates. And he seems to be enjoying living in Geelong. Scott has been a huge supporter of Kersten. Having the support of your coach makes life easier. Some players will leave the club no doubt. Rarely have Geelong lost players they wanted to keep that have continued to play well after they left.
There are exceptions to that (Ablett, Mumford) but different circumstances.

Vardy and Kersten need look no further than Walker. To see what it might look like leaving a top club for one at the bottom. Sure they all have many years left of a career. Walker was a decent player at Geelong. Now the media is already talking about him and West being delisted sooner rather than later.

I liked what Walker brought to the table but Geez has it fallen away up north.

And as suggested what a great advertisement for the grass not always being greener on the other side. Sure the cash is good but if it's team songs you also want to sing you had better pick a winner.

The Kent Kingsley Krew
Wouldn't be totally devastated to lose him; could have some reasonable currency as young KPF with multiple clubs interested.

Hasn't really looked close to getting into the team this year, and with his injury prone past could be an opportunity to shed one of those types of players.

However, it depends a lot on how Mitch Clark fares in this part of the season too.

There are a few variables when it comes to the Northern sides though.

GWS has a deep squad and they also grabbed the following out of last year's trade period;

- a 2nd round selection from Adelaide
- a 1st round selection from Carlton
- a 1st round selection from Collingwood

Problem with GWS, they'll face multiple bids for a few of their Academy players so those selections they picked up might be needed for that process depending on how highly they rate those players (they might also want to cash in on the Riverina players this year as it'll probably be changed before the 2017 draft).

Brisbane, to a lesser degree, are probably in the same boat.

Essendon, with players returning next season, might be the team to try and deal with (as annoying as that may be). If they are also the keenest, that could work in our favour but there is a lot of water to run under the bridge and, like most things, it is purely a rumour right now.

And Vardy's current form is something else to consider.

I'd take a second rounder and run for vardy. Played about 6 decent quarters of senior footy in his 6 year career. Shown very little at reserve level this year. I understand people might think our patience with his injuries may be rewarded like we are seeing now with Menzel but I just don't see it with Vardy.

I'd be seriously gutted if this is all we got in return. Not a bad effort though mate. Would rather a few upper picks myself.

My son ran into Jansen, Duncan , Kersten and Stanley over here during the bye round - he knows Jansen quite well.
Interestingly dazbroncos , one point he made is that while he is loving playing in the 1's at Brisbane as Clubs go it's cheese and chalk between Brissy and us. He really rated the culture and support he got at the Cattery and definitely misses playing in the hoops.

Any good mananger will shop an ooc player and leak it to the media as a whisper - it's all about the business

Glad to see JJ also has some perspective on his move too.

I hope that SK was party to the conversation - especially considering he's already in the afl side..

is that Hayden Crozier?
I would have thought Kersten's a better footballer already than he is. If anything, Crozier and their 2nd rounder for a key forward. Kersten can kick from 60 metres out and as we are seeing already, he may finish up with 35+ goals for the season.
Id take 30 as an awesome return from SK this year... anything more is just a bonus...
but yes, i want to see SK develop further for us...

Hell... 30 snags off his first mostly uninterupted pre season.... at 24 yo... Ill take that .... and he's been fit for selection pretty much all year..

TO me that is momentum building...

The Carlton pick obtained in a trade is ours. It will be worth a lot less than they may have hoped if we finish high. Might they be willing to trade it?
The players forcast in last year trade period..they may have felt they needed more points than it appears they now need . The loss of Marshall... the form of players in the Allies squad had most Academy players drop. Maccreadie will not be top 5.
They may be willing to trade Vardy for players they consider surplus but we rate..
