Lever's an absolute star but yes if I was Melbourne I would've stuck with the offer being Pick 10 + 2018 2nd Rounder.

Melbourne are probably thinking "That's okay, if Adelaide draft a Victorian with either of those picks we'll just get him in 2-3 years" ;)
Lever is not (yet) an absolute star. They are paying as though he is.

Surprised... they put Smith as better get than Stringer.
Hilarious!

Smith is not that good.

The scrambling on this board for a 24 year old who is 174cm and averages 9.9 possies is baffling to say the least.

Jack Watts is twice the player of Smith and Jake Stringer is GAS in comparison.

Essendon are insane IMO

It is in his blood. And, why would he want to go to the Crows after Tex's hissy fits?
I know right. And the fans! If he thought what Geelong supporters offered up to him was bad......
Unless you enjoy living in 24/7 footy bubble full of stupidity Adelaide isn't really the club to go to.

Unless they trade a future 1st rnd for him we are right back in it if we want to be.
This is what I find interesting. It seems Geelong offered 21. Essendon are basically either going to have to fork out their 2018 1st or the best offer is 29.

Remember too depending where the Motlop compensation ends up we could be in a situation where the we have pick 19 vs pick 30.

I don't think either the Dogs or Essendon will budge any time soon and that is why Geelong will hold firm on not trading pick 21.

Yeah brutal. TBF though Melbourne don't need the high picks as much as others.
Lever is more what they need.
Sort of a win win for both parties.
Lever is worth it but it is still a gamble.

At 21 though, he has a lot of footy on him at a high level.

I agree that he is more in the mould of players they need.

Very interesting developments.

Can't see how Stringer gets to Essendon now unless they trade 2018 R1 which I imagine they'd be reluctant to do.

I think Essendon overpaid majorly for Devon Smith.

Melbourne may be keen to get back into the 2018 draft after trading their 2018 R1 for Lever - may open a door for us re: Watts?

Now our chance for Stringer

Hopefully

#19 Compo for Motlop
#52 Compo for Menzel
#38 from Carlton for Lang
Future Third from whoever for Stanley

#19,#34 for Stringer, 2018 Fourth
#51 for Ablett take it or leave it
#52 for a mystery player

We have #20 and #38 for the draft
And extra picks for father sons next year

It can because the Crows gave back a future 3rd rounder, so in essence that Orr of the trade is a net upgrade for Melbourne and thus allowed.

It says..

If a club trades a future first-round selection, it may not trade any other future selection from that same draft. But if a club keeps its future first-round selection, it can trade any of its future selections from other rounds.

Someone on foxsports trade blog just said this, interesting if true, bad for us i think if that happens

"Have heard from people at the Gold Coast footy club that Steven Motlop has already signed the dotted line at the Gold Coast, but the club are waiting to release to the press as they want to announce it with conjunction to Ablett to Geelong, which is set the be finalized next week"

Bombers will most likely package 2 second rounders for a first and pass that on for Stringer

I dont rate Smith that highly, but I think the bombers are playing this well if they want to obtain the three
If they get the 3 and they all fire. Bloody Hell. Especially with how they move the ball.

You’re being too literal. They got a better pick back so in net terms they have better later round draft capital than before. It’s allowed.
