Let's hope so!
Perhaps Hyphen offering to fall on his sword for Geelong scared GCS
Unsure if this article was already posted in this thread:
"Gary Ablett has put his hand into his own pocket, forgoing a six-figure sum of money due to him from the Gold Coast in order to accommodate the Suns and his own wish to end his playing career with Geelong.
The Ablett camp indicated that because the dual Brownlow medallist was walking out on the final year of that contract, the money due to the Suns would be repaid even if it meant Ablett waiving a big chunk of his Geelong wage next season.
The prevailing view is that the Cats and Ablett will together compensate the Suns.
Put simply, were Darcy Lang, for example, to agree to be traded to the Gold Coast, Ablett would take a significant pay cut next season for that money to be forwarded to Lang."
Now it seems Lang is going to Carlton.
Don't quite understand why GCS said no to Hyphen, who's dominated the VFL, but just can't crack into the Seniors.
"Geelong has previously been the side ruling out players from trade contention.
The Cats said no to dealing Mitch Duncan, Nakia Cockatoo, Jake Kolodjashnij and Jackson Thurlow while Darcy Lang doesn’t want to move interstate."
The Age
While I really want GAJr to return to Geelong, I'm annoyed by suggestions that Geelong should give a Best 22 player like Duncan, or compensate GCS for Ablett.
I agree with the poster who said Geelong needs to negotiate hard + ruthlessly, like Essendon - forgive me, I've forgotten who said it.
If Hyphen wants to go to GCS because he'll get games, then offer him to GCS again, with a like it or lump it! The GCS didn't pay Ablett his upfront $$$, it was the AFL's $$$. Why should Ablett or GFC be disadvantaged by GCS's crap business decision?
It's blatantly clear + been blatantly clear all year that GAJr wants to return to Geelong, GCS need to suck it up + accept a realistic trade for GAJr.
