Pick 53 for gary or we walk away is the outcome I like.
Or
How about if we pay bozo the clown to do pregame entertainment to draw the crowds in for them. Appeals to the young age demographic, and he'd fit right in at the GCFC.

I agree draft picks are very overrated. But that is a very short sighted view. It's not just a matter of who has been taken at those picks, but rather those still in the mix at those picks at those taken after pick 22. People should not just "f**king chill over pick 22", it's potentially a very bad deal long term for the club and fans and members have every right to be upset over it. I'd personally be furious if we traded it, I'll end up accepting it, but as a paid up member of 11-years I'll be pretty annoyed and I have every right to be.
Disagree. Gaz is one of the best ever, coming off a B&F season from 15 games. I also disagree that you "have every right to be annoyed."

IF geelong give p19 or p22 for Ablett and another player from GC, what would that other player likely be? Aaron Hall? With GC reportedly not having many list spots left is this a likely scenario?
Hopefully Tom Lynch

What are we getting for Lang? Surely we send that pick and 35 to the Suns for Ablett. Either as two picks or get them swapped out someplace?

See this does my ******* head in. All of these players were cooked (SJ aside)when we flicked them off. Ablett is far from it. It's disingenuous to keep bringing up these names.
Yes, I take that point and likewise the post following it. Wasn't meant to be a controversial post. I'm only asking about appearances: those players were asked to move on ostensibly in the name of a list refresh. Some of them did not like being asked. (On the actual point of what they did next, some were at least good enough to play first for other clubs.)

I'm thinking more specifically about how, for example, the club pitches it (with half an eye re those players), or in any other defensive mode it needs to use. I'm genuinely interested in what each club needs to be able to say, counting back from the future rather than looking forward into it.

think about it logically FFS.
We know exactly what we will get from Gaz.
Oh really? We all know? I must not have been listening.
How many games will he play then? How are his injuries? Has that shoulder fixed itself has it? And will he need a break from the game because of his poor sister? At 34 is he feeling better than ever?

Please tell us all exactly what we are going to get from Gary. We are all dying to know.

Let's hope so!

Perhaps Hyphen offering to fall on his sword for Geelong scared GCS :p

Unsure if this article was already posted in this thread:

"Gary Ablett has put his hand into his own pocket, forgoing a six-figure sum of money due to him from the Gold Coast in order to accommodate the Suns and his own wish to end his playing career with Geelong.

The Ablett camp indicated that because the dual Brownlow medallist was walking out on the final year of that contract, the money due to the Suns would be repaid even if it meant Ablett waiving a big chunk of his Geelong wage next season. The prevailing view is that the Cats and Ablett will together compensate the Suns.

Put simply, were Darcy Lang, for example, to agree to be traded to the Gold Coast, Ablett would take a significant pay cut next season for that money to be forwarded to Lang."

Now it seems Lang is going to Carlton.

Don't quite understand why GCS said no to Hyphen, who's dominated the VFL, but just can't crack into the Seniors.

"Geelong has previously been the side ruling out players from trade contention.

The Cats said no to dealing Mitch Duncan, Nakia Cockatoo, Jake Kolodjashnij and Jackson Thurlow while Darcy Lang doesn’t want to move interstate."
The Age

While I really want GAJr to return to Geelong, I'm annoyed by suggestions that Geelong should give a Best 22 player like Duncan, or compensate GCS for Ablett.

I agree with the poster who said Geelong needs to negotiate hard + ruthlessly, like Essendon - forgive me, I've forgotten who said it.

If Hyphen wants to go to GCS because he'll get games, then offer him to GCS again, with a like it or lump it! The GCS didn't pay Ablett his upfront $$$, it was the AFL's $$$. Why should Ablett or GFC be disadvantaged by GCS's crap business decision?

It's blatantly clear + been blatantly clear all year that GAJr wants to return to Geelong, GCS need to suck it up + accept a realistic trade for GAJr.

How about this:

Crows trade 10 & 16 to Carlton for Gibbs and a future second.

Carlton trade 16 to Essendon for 25 + 30

Calrton trade 30 for Lang (they trade 25 for Kennedy)

Geelong trade 30 for Ablett + pick 37

We end up with 19, 22, 35 & 37

Will need to see what the Blues are left with after this Gibbs deal as that changes everything
